Evanov to expand the "Energy"...

Until today I was unaware of the new Energy 106 in Winnipeg which launched back in July. Hot 103/Winnipeg used to lean more on dance than it had in recent years which created the opening for Energy 106. Winnipeg is an awesome city and Energy 106 is a very cool dance-leaning CHR! http://www.energy106.ca

I see the Energy going more to Halifax. Based on what was stated on the article, Z103.5 feels to me as a "if it ain't broken don't fix it" meme. I do have to check out Energy Winnipeg. Another good dance/chr is Hot 89.9 in Ottawa.

I have to agree.

Z103.5 is the strong CHR in Toronto. I can't see them flipping to Energy.

Z-103.5 Toronto is a great station, but it's the lowest rated CHR in Toronto. 104.5 Chum FM is an ultra successful Adult CHR, 99.9 Virgin Radio is a successful CHR/Pop station, Kiss 92.5 is slowly but surely moving up in the ratings, and all the while Z keeps slipping, unfortunately.

See for yourself:

Compare the 2.2 share of CIDC (Z103.5) with the 3.8 for CKIS (Kiss FM), or the 5.6 share for CKFM (Virgin), or the 10.2 share of Chum-FM.

The most Dance friendly CHRs in Canada, aside from Z-103.5, are Hot 107 Edmonton:

And the CHRs in Quebec City: NRJ, and C-Koi. They're both more Dance friendly than the NRJ and C-Koi in Montreal, Ottawa, or Sherbrooke:

Thank you for letting me know about this station. It sounds terrific so far. We used to listen to Z103.5 and then Flow 93.5 but they seemed to get rid of alot of the dance and reposition themselves to go after CHR/Rhythmic CHR.

The first song was Tiesto which was awesome.
When I was in radio breakbeat and vocal trance were hot, let's see if they play Dubstep.

Props to Evanov which continues to impress with non cookie-cutter Ryan Seacrest filled stations

Happy Holidays,
Justin

In the case of Toronto, CIDC's decline began after CKIS' return and CKFM became Virgin Radio, plus with CFXJ and CHUM-FM (who is now CFXJ's sister station) in the picture this would become a crowded situation that might have prompted CIDC to move towards a more Top 40 presentation. But this may have backfired for them, so if anything probably a rebranding of the station to "Energy" will be welcome relief and bring a once legendary monicker that was last used at CING/Burlington back to the GTA.

As for Montreal, this is one market that still has roots in Dance music, but in the case of CKMF (who once billed itself as a Dance music outlet) and CKOI, those days went away and the only place you're likely to hear any Dance cut is either on CKBE or CJFM, and both stations aren't even Top 40s. I still enjoy listening to CKMF but they could loosen up their playlist a little though.

Meanwhile, one has to be concerned about the future of Edmonton's CJNW, which was sold to Harvard Broadcasting December 21st (2011). For a company that owns AC, Rock and Country outlets, let's hope they leave Hot 107 intact.

As for "Energy" coming to Halifax, that would help CKHZ and if anything bring it back to their roots.

Wow, you actually threw me back with CKMF! :)

I remember during my college days (back in the 80's) listening to that station (whenever my roommates and I did drives into Canada for beer runs, lol). Before they were branded with the "NRJ" network, it was a stand alone dance station that was very hot! Even the French material, which I couldn't understand, was hot! The first time I heard Farley Jackmaster Funk's house classic "Love Can't Turn Around" was on CKMF and was on regular rotation! :)

I know they're branded with 'NRJ, but I would love to hear dance again like that on 94.3 :)
