Evansville's WYXY 107.1 switched from Contemporary Christian to Jack-FM today.

That's rather surprising...haven't all (or at least most) of the current Jacks been 50kws? And owned by large broadcasters? This is run by "Boonville Broadcasting" and only 1.6kw. Normally stations of this power are quite community oriented, which is the antithesis of Jack...

WYXY is owned by South Central Communications. They have three "Jacks" - one in Nashville and two that started this week in Evansville and Knoxville.

Visit www.wyxy.com for more information.

The only Christian oriented stations in Evansville are WCFY 102.7 and WYIR 96.9, both Low Power.

ALSO - there seems to currently be a problem during and between most songs with the "top of the hour" liner. In the middle of songs it says "WYXY Boonville - Evansville is JACK-FM."

CourierPress.com has some "talk back" comments from more people if you go there

What a suprise. Didn't think Evansville had it in them.

Jack will sure have a lotta holes to fill. Urban FM, Hot AC sound, 80s, Soft AC material.

If they blend it all nicely it should be a smash. And will Jack make smart a$$ comments like he always does on the Jacks or will he scale back to be "conservitive" for this city?

Word from the 13th floor is Regent wanted to put Jack on and SCC beat them to the punch. Once again, Regent gets outsmarted by SCC. Listened to Jack this morning, same sarcasm.

The last time I heard WYXY, it was in Mono and was one of the last FM stations in the USA that was Mono. Is that still true?

AS

Nope, WYXY broadcast in glorious stereo. But 107.1, WYXY's predecessor, was mono as WBNL. There are still a handful of stations broadcasting in mono; ESPN 94.9 lacks a stereo light. WSGS in Hazard has one of the biggest FM signals in Kentucky and it stays mono. Over the years WSGS have tried to broadcast stereo, but the multipath in those Eastern Kentucky hollers (what folks in California call basins) make the station unlistenable. To overcome the multipath problem, WSGS stays mono.

As far as "Jack" is concern, nothing to see here. However, I would've liked to have been a fly on the wall next to the South Central switchboard yesterday. Hell hath no fury than a Contemporary Christian fan that just lost their radio station.

The last time I was in Los Angeles, Christian Talk KKLA-FM 99.5 was in mono and in Dallas, Christian Talk KWRD-FM 100.7 is also in mono. Both of these stations are owned by Salem Communications Corporation. Speaking of Christian radio stations, I remember 101.5 in Evansville was a Christian station. Is it not Christian today?

Yes, 101.5 is still doing spreading the word of the Lord.

Hmmm.

Did that mean Jack 94.9?

I don't think Jack 105.3 or 106.1 would have been likely, but you never would have known and now won't since 107.1 did it.<P ID="signature">______________

Jack 106.1 according to the AE's I know. Kiss couldn't keep up with Hot. They needed a way to bring down WIKY and WABX. Jack would slip in between them and steal some 25-54. This is from salespeople, so take it with a grain of salt. But it would've made sense.

My experience is that salespeople know more about potential format changes than airstaff and even the PD's.
