I moved back to St. Louis in '97 and worked outside the radio biz. Did really, really well until the company I worked for was sold in 2006. After a decade out of radio, I got a job in sales at a sports station here, then moved to a competing sports station. In November, they fired the entire sales staff, and I'm currently bar tending and looking for a position that I will enjoy.
I was amazed what 10 years did to the industry. Radio just isn't as much fun now as it used to be. It's so corporate. Larry Aiken had his quirks, but working at GBF was fun back then. WYNG was a blast as we rose to the top on the wave of modern country. But in the world of 'clusters,' radio lost it's charm. When they blame Sat Rad for killing terrestrial radio, we should all remember that it really was consolidation, and that radio did it to itself.
Other than that, things are great with me, and I'm glad to see that one of the good guys is still hard at it.
