Evansville Stations Status Report

As of 7am today, Jan 28:

- CBS 44 / MyTSN off the air
- WEHT seems to be operating on generator power. The on-air personalities have been saying there are power lines down quite close to their Henderson studios.
- WUEV, WEOA off air

1280 WGBF on air. Carrying regular programming with local news at the top of the hour.
WIKY is on the air, but the signal doesn't seem as strong as usual. They might be on generator power. Doing their usual: lots of weather updates with a few spotsets and songs.
WSTO is on and providing occasional weather updates.
Jack-FM is on the air.

Any stations I did not mention did not show up on my dial scan, so I assume they are either entirely off the air or running a dead carrier. I find it odd that I only caught one Regent station. Maybe ChiefEngineer's work out there twenty years ago keeps the thing running to this day ::)

On a side note, Cromwell 97X and 105.7 in Owensboro is running a simulcast with emergency information on both signals

At this time, I believe all the stations are back on the air except:

WNIN-TV
WNIN-FM
WEZG-FM

Dennis Jon Bailey and Dianne Douglas and the rest of the WIKY staff were most helpful. They essentially dropped music for the morning daypart, giving news and information for their entire shift on Wednesday and Thursday. They were running news at least every half-hour in the other dayparts, often interrupting Delilah. It was certainly a case of people trying to get information via battery-operated radios with such huge numbers of power outages.

One more TV ntoe: WIKY-LP (CW affil) was off the air for quite a while.

WNIN TV is on the air. WNIN-FM returned to the air this afternoon. WKU pubic radio is still off at 89.5 while the Bowling Green frequency at 88.9 returned today. KET (Channel 31) is still off and WEVV is at reduced power.

WKTG is down for the count since their tower is on the McLean/Hopkins County line. Their AM WFMW has done well serving a community with zero electricity.

WGBF-FM is still off the air as is Kiss. WGBF-AM could have been a NEWS station since they do call themselves News/Talk but Regent has basically eliminated news.

Kudos to WIKY for the best coverage and a mention for Chad and Erin at WBKR and to the Cromwell Group south of the Ohio for a good effort passing along information.

It was weird Wednesday morning to scan an almost quiet dial.

Public Service Announcement.......If your station is located next to a tower (WFIE, WEHT, WIKY, WBKR and anyone else) be careful the next few days. The ice that falls will be unforgiving as it lands. Also, as the ice sheds the tower will undergo stress that could cause it to collapse. So please be careful.

Kiss was on the air at some point yesterday. I didn't check it again today. Interesting.

I should add that the NOAA Weather station was off. If memory serves, they broadcast from the same site as WJLT, so I'm not sure what happened there.
