EVB Live Doing Poorly?

I'm wondering how bad the ratings are for EVB Live. I've received both a detailed survey from azcentral.com and an invitation to a 2.5 hour focus group on EVB Live. The survey asked questions like "What should we do with the EVB Live timeslot?". The answer choices were: Keep it as is, reduce it to 60 mins. paired with a traditional 5pm newscast, cancel it altogether, or replace it with a 90 minute traditional newscast.

If they're are spending so much time and effort with surveys and focus groups, it usually does not bode well. They've replaced the "200 EVB" nomenclature on their news opens and replaced it with "200 East Van Buren". So, the EVB name means virtually nothing in Phoenix.

Feel free to weigh in with your opinions and what would you do in this timeslot. One of my thoughts would be to try a "Now@Nine"-type format in this slot and have a timely discussion of the day's issues with news and weather updates.

Cancel it and buy Wallace and Ladmo reruns. Those guys had more intelligence and understanding of the Phoenix market than almost anyone on TV here today.

I suspect your suggestion was said in jest but there is most likely a good idea in there. Back in the day afternoons on TV, once the soaps were done, belonged to the kids just home from school. Running W&L at 4 might just become a hit again as it parks the kids while mom prepares dinner and is wholesome and fun - kind of the way the old Mousekateers used to be.

I don't have young ones any longer and maybe when the kids get home it's time for mom to break out the soccermobile and begin running them around to practice of various kinds. But for the young ones it would likely be good entertainment (and perhaps for moms who remember W&L too).

I would put a syndicated news magazine (isn't Raycom selling its "America Now" format to stations outside their group? Putting "Millionaire" back in the time slot would be unlikely, since they share it with KAZT which airs it in the evening) at 4 and a traditional newscast from 4:30-5:30. I've seen some numbers and KNXV's "Now" format is doing worse in the afternoon than it did at 9am.
