Weekend host Boster leaves WTVN
Wednesday, January 04, 2006
WTVN (610 AM) has lost another talkshow host.
Curt Boster, whose show aired from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays on the Columbus station, quit yesterday.
WTVN Program Director Bruce Collins called Boster during the longtime radio host’s vacation.
Boster said he was told that WTVN was moving in a different direction and that the only spot open for him was late on Saturday nights.
"I didn’t want to do anything else. I’ve got a real life. The sports-marketing business is where I make all my gravy," said Boster, a sports agent.
Collins said WTVN plans to continue with a local talk show in the time slot.
"The only thing I’m allowed to say is I wish him all the best in his future endeavors," Collins added.
Boster — who has worked in radio for more than 20 years at stations such as WCOL (92.3 FM), WLVQ (96.3 FM), WNCI (97.9 FM) and WBNS (1460 AM) — had been at WTVN since April 2001. His exit follows that of talk-show host Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon, who was axed Nov. 7.
Boster said he saw Cannon last week and that Cannon asked him to thank listeners for their support.
Boster has been on a "bowl tour," during which he went to the Liberty, Outback and Orange bowls.
He has listened to a lot of radio while on the tour.
"Every Clear Channel station is exactly the same," he said. "It’s not just WTVN. I’m surprised it took as long as it did. I told my listeners the last day I was on: ‘This is it. They’re going to fire me when I’m on vacation.’ "
