Even More Coverage For WEPN, On 107.1 FM

Just days after purchasing WCHR 1040 in Central Jersey for simulcasting purposes, WEPN (aka 1050 ESPN) adds another repeater, WLIR-FM 107.1. The radio home of the Knicks, the Rangers, Michael Kay and Stephen A. Smith will begin operating on 107.1 starting Monday.

WEPN has long been looking at ways to increase their power in areas adjacent to New York City. Currently, some Knicks and Rangers games are simulcast on WLNG-FM 92.1 in Long Island and WMTR 1240 in New Jersey. Does anyone know if the simulcasts on WLNG will stop as a result of their new signal on 107.1?

One recalls when 107.1 FM used to be a simulcast of WNEW-FM 102.7 for a time in the 90's, old calls were WWHB.

WEPN GM Tim McCarthy comments on the acquisition:

"This is part of our ongoing commitment to our listeners and advertisers and a creative way to engage sports fans on Long Island and coastal Connecticut."

Once both WLIR and WCHR start simulcasting WEPN, that is going to be one hell of a legal ID, I reckon...

Meanwhile, some editor at Wikipedia's WLIR-FM page wasted no time in changing their station logo to that of 1050...
