Evening co-anchor Jon Camp exiting WMTW/Portland

His last newscast is this Friday. Word has it Camp's contract was not renewed. There is chatter that reporter Will Lewis is about to receive his walking papers, too. Just this week a new President/General Manager joined the ABC affiliate from rival WCSH, the dominant NBC affiliate in town. Despite Hearst's attempts at a turnaround Channel 8 remains mired in last place, and the station barely registers in mornings.

Jon Camp, we hardly knew ye! WMTW has made many mistakes over the years, maybe their biggest was letting go of Jeff Peterson! I never got the impression that Will Lewis was ever comfortable on camera. Of course, he's no better than Keith not-as-bald-as-Baldacci-Baldi! And whatever happened to Danielle Strauss? So many questions!

Where's John Dougherty when you need him? Marty on the Mountain?

I'll be at the bar if you need me!

Cheers,
OldPort Wino

WMTW needs a complete overhaul in my opinion. New set of anchors, new team and new set, the graphics stink. I just get bored watching WMTW. Would like to see Shannon Moss move to the 6pm anchor chair with a new co anchor. Would like to see her with former WMTW anchor Doug Cook who is still in the area.

has there been anything in the Portland Press or any newspapers about this? I mean, 3 or potentially 4 on-air talent at WMTW are gone.........
and I had no idea until today that Jon Camp was signing off; was there any sort of "good-bye"?

There was a brief blurb about Camp's departure on the Press Herald website in the update section last Wednesday:

I'm not aware of any formal signoff by Camp, unless there was something on the 11PM newscast last Thursday (Camp didn't anchor the Friday newscasts; Tracy Sabol solo anchored - Tory's on vaca/honeymoon.) As Camp's departure wasn't exactly voluntary, I reckon there wasn't one.

I can't recall any sendoff for Danielle, either, but then again reporters don't usually get the same kind of on-air recognition as anchors.

Stabley got a nice on-air sendoff last Thursday during the noon newscast; she left for the proverbial 'greener pastures.'
