Does anybody have the pin out configuration of the remote connector on this unit?

Thanks!

Been there, done it, which is why I posted this topic to begin with.

I was told:

"We no longer support that unit, but you are welcome to order a service manual from our website. . ."

Uh, yeah.

???

(Yes, I know, the manual is only $25, but it's not like I am asking for a full schematic of the machine).

Wow. We no longer support that? That is almost a slap in the face. I can't quite bring myself to be so heartless.

I try to support our customers even if their equipment is an antique.

They must really be sure of themselves if they don't need to give you a reason to buy their product if and when you can afford to buy a new one. Maybe they have no competition. That's just bad business.

I love to tell customers "I want your money, but I don't want to waste it, so let's see if we can figure this out over the phone first for free, then we'll see if I or someone else has to come in for a service call for $$.

That may seem fiscally wrong to a manager, but it results in customers deciding to buy our product when a new press is needed.

We purchased a couple BD500 a few years back since we already had one. For some unknown reason the new ones came with a couple "upgrade" kits (we didn't need) to add digital I/O and 20 seconds of delay. Was told to keep the kits. That was nice of them. A year later one BD500 blew smoke on the I/O board. Put in one of the "spares" and we're back in business! Called Eventide to see if they would repair the smoked board. When I told the tech I had put in a spare & it worked I was grilled as to why I had this unothorized part and NO I had to send the whole unit in for a minimum $600 repair bill.

We have Broadcast Tools delays in most studios now. The oldest BD500 is sitting collecting dust. Hit it with "0" db audio and it loops the last 8 seconds of audio over and over and over... Yep, that's a known "feature" of those units.

There was one of these for sale on Ebay recently - and I noticed in the photos that the unit had provision for left and right inputs and outputs, yet the right channel was capped off - no sockets.
I quizzed the seller as to whether these could be modified for stereo use and he said "Eventide used to offer an upgrade service for this very mod, for around $600".

Thieving swines.

This practice of companies trying to push manuals on people at inflated prices when all they want is a little basic info (like pin-outs etc) is
over the top in my opinion.
If you are going to sell a product, you at least help people to use your product by parting with such information as pin-outs, operational procedures etc.
Forcing them to buy a manual just to get this info only fosters negative feelings in the buyer.

If the product is no longer "supported" [a term that to me is bollocks - it just means "we want to sell you our latest product"] then the information AND the manuals should be given away at NO cost.
To say "we no longer support it" and then to charge for a manual is just rude.
