Everyone Else Cutting, Dan Mason Paying

Dan Mason is is getting a great return on Stockholders money. He's paying Sarah Clark at Alice SF 1,000,000 a year for morning drive. And the station is at 1.3 12 plus. My guess is she must have a 6.0 in 18 to 34 to warrant that kind of money.

And Melaine Morgan is fired from KSFO mornings.

CBS isn't tanking like Citadel...at least not yet. With the exception of KCBS, the CBS stations in SF stations are doing worse than CBS stations in a lot of markets. And last I heard, Sarah and No Name are popular, so Mason probably decided she was worth the money - at least in the short run. Melanie had the misfortune of having her contract end at a bad time financially. If Sarah's timing had been similarly bad, she might have been sent packing too.

I wonder if Sarah's big paycheck had anything to do with The Woody show wanting more money. Maybe they were jealous. Who knows.

"CBS isn't tanking yet."

Reminds me how hard it is to commit suicide by jumping out of a basement window.

I think the combined ratings of Citadel's two stations in SF would total about what the total ratings of all the CBS stations bring to the table. What do they have in town? Five stations?

of course it did... woody has beaten sarah and no name in just about every one of their books....they should be making the same if not more than her. remember, that 1 mill, is just her salary. doesnt include no name, matty, hooman or charlene.....

Sarah's money is not about ratings. they are paying her on the strength of her "brand". the LOCAL MEDIA BUYERS LOVE Sarah and they buy her show... no matter the ratings. Very similar to the Strangle hold that Don Bleu has on the national media buyers. more than one way to skin a cat. it's not personal woodson...just business.

It may not be about ratings, but she is 7th and Woody is 14th in the money demo. You decide if ratings aren't a big part of this deal.

Sorry, I don't buy it. Unless someone has seen a check stub with their own eyes, this is rumour
that seems to resurrect itself with no apparent substance behind it. I can't recall any SF talent making anywhere NEAR that kind of change. That would include the talent that made the BIG money when big money was still the norm. (Gene Nelson, Don Bleu, Frank Dill etc etc)

With the current market trend resulting in trimming the big salaries, I doubt CBS would throw
that kind of money to a local talent. I doubt the COMBINED salaries of the KFOG morning show
would top a million bucks and it has regularly out-performed the Alice morning show since
the beginning of time and produces tremendous ratings and revenue for Cumulus.

The million dollar collar on Sarah is a joke. Bet that is for four or five years; not a mil per year. Ten to fifteen percent of gross billing for the time slot would be more than enuf.

Generally true, but the Doghouse was a 2 million dollar morning show. Don't know of any others that were ever over 5-800 per year.

You can choose to believe it or not, but it's true. Sara is bringing down around 1.2 million a year. At one point she was looking for a 5 year deal at over 7 million and settled for a two year deal at this outrageous number. She had the bad timing to begins serious negotiations for her new contract well after she and No Name's fluke #1 book had happened. (They were #9 in the fall book.) She was lucky enough to get her deal done before Dan Mason and the current economic depression attitude had taken over CBS and the radio industry.

Ok, last year KLLC billed about $20million. AM drive was the only daypart with ratings. Assign 40% of the billing to AM Drive. 15% of 8 million = 1.2.

Not a check stub, but a contract. Bleu's topped out at a million a year (assuming he hit bonus, which he did) 10-12 years ago.

Probably KOIT and KFOG with KIOI close

KOIT & KFOG are in the top 5 total billers. KGO, KCBS,KNBR,KOIT and KFOG. Ranging $33m to $27m.

KIOI's billing is a joke. A couple of years ago they were third at best in CC behind both KMEL(over 18 Mill) and KYLD(over 20 Mill). CC forces KIOI's billing up by taking money from the deals of more successful stations and getting them on buys the couldn't get on. They also way over sell the station clearing way less money than they book. One of the worst managed stations I've ever seen from a sales/inventory management perspective.

Sad but true. Most of these advertising agency's are full of 20 something narrssistic brain dead human debris. Really!

They have become what the news media has become. STUPID. They buy stations they personally like just like newsmedia chooses to pick the stories they want. They're out of touch. Too Hip. No Substance just NO BRAIN ACTIVITY.

Perhaps Kenny in Concord shopud open up his own advertising business ;D

Thanks BossJock,,Im still waiting for "ULTRA RICH CBS" to Revive KFRC,,, Its quite simple ,,,Bring in someone with Radio talent.. John Mack Flanagan, and Bobby Ocean,,,,, I really would like to hear more than Beatle Brunch from JMF!!! And as for VO,,, Hey theres no reason not to get Ocean back !!!!!!!!!!!!! XM Radio ousted him,, i almost cancelled my 4 subs! The "top of the hour" intro Bobby had at XM was a classic,,,Afternoon drive= Bobby Ocean!!! I would much rather hear JMF and Celeste,,,,Two Ex KYA jocks,,, mornings could use a little help!! Kenny in Concord ,,,,,I guess it could be worse,, Ron and Cammy,,that was the worst radio ive ever heard!!!!!!!!!!! When KRON is sold,, bring in Vicki Liviakis for the news!

Demos and buy specs are predetermined by the agency client. All the agency does is buy as efficiently as possible in the target.

They buy stations they personally like

No, they do not. They have to get stations to meet their CPP and have the entire buy in each market meet the reach and frequency goals.
