Everyone's "favorite" show has a new time slot

Everyone's "favorite" show, Drew Mortgage, has been moved to a new time slot at 11 a.m. on WCRN-AM 830 swapping time slots with the Mid-day Report with Hank Stolz which moves to Noon. They're also carrying the Lou Dobbs show now from 2 - 3 leading into the Howie Carr show.

Not sure what they are running from 1 - 2 but I did hear a promo for one of their Saturday infomercials being heard at 1 p.m. now on Tuesdays. I can't recall which one it was that was moving to Tuesdays. Does this mean that Laura Ingraham is off the schedule completely opening up additional room for brokered programming on the weekday schedule to help pay the bills?

Of course, their program schedule on the web site is not reflecting the changes except for the addition of Lou Dobbs at 2.

And I was actually hoping WCRN would ramp up their newsroom and hire Sherman Whitman who was recently let go from Worcester's WTAG-AM.

If only you knew the problems we are having behind the scenes. We have to stream our shows from the internet because we can't get a good satellite signal from our downtown location (too many tall buildings) That is why shows start late / end at weird times or get chopped off mid-sentence going into or out of local breaks or news. We tried to get Sherman over but he makes more money on unemployment than we can pay him to work. Website is in process of being updated. No big loss for Laura - we only got 1 call asking why she wasn't on anymore. She was not on live any way.

Not familiar with Drew Mortgage (is that the name of the show?) or WRCN (how long have they been around?) but had not heard that Sherman Whitman was no longer at WTAG. That is a shame. I remember him from both WBCN and WBCS. Budget cut I would assume?

Anyone know if WCRN airs a brokered show called "Heroes Talk Radio"? It's been running in Washington for awhile and just recently started airing in New York. Of course, the subject matter does not involve sandwiches, so it's not going to draw a lot of ratings... ::)

Let me get this straight: you can't get a satellite feed in WOOSTAH because of the tall buildings, but every radio station in BOSTON can?

Too big a project to put the satellite dish and receiver at the transmitter site? Don't know whether that would require adding an additional STL to feed the downlinked material back to the studio from the Tx only to feed it back again to the Tx after adding local content, such as it is. Seems as though the back and forth might be unnecessary if low-bandwidth audio signals could control the receiver from the studio over a narrow-bandwidth phone line. Sounds like a couple of days work for the contract engineer, but maybe the Carberrys don't have the few hundred $$$ to pay him. Seems like any reasonably skilled and experienced contract broadcast engineer could make a proposal--or maybe this guy has figured out that the likelihood of his generating any real work for himself is so small that it is not even worth the time it would take to think through how to solve the problem.

I think you actually mean the Website is always in the process of being updated. The last time it actually accurately reflected what was on the air was when it was hosted by Mike Roberts web hosting company.

No, every radio station in Boston cannot. Not every station has a clear path at the proper azimuth and elevation to the satellite belt, and not every station has the money to rent space for a dish in another location. Often the feeds have to be sent to the studios from the transmitter sites or elsewhere.

Quite possibly. IIRC the site is in a heavily wooded area, and with WCRN being directional the dish and all its attachments would have to be far away from the near-field so as not to screw up the pattern.
