Everything That Rocks 2007

Any guesses On The #1 Song?

I'm thinking Either "The Pretender" by "The Foo Fighters" or "Fake It" by "Seether"
"Rise Today" from "Alter Bridge" Should Be Up There As Well. Definitly One Of Those Three Will Have The #1 Spot.

I don't know about WMMR's countdown, but nationally speaking, I would have to believe "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven would be the #1 rock song.

Too bad most of the other singles that band has put out suck. I was very pleasantly surprised by this one, and it has earned the airplay it has received.

Actually, according to Mediabase, WMMR's #1 song of the year is Dig by Incubus. They have played this song 843 times in 2007.

As far as the format is concerned, it depends on who's list your go by. Billboard's list could differ from R&R which could differ from Rolling Stone. Most radio stations countdowns are based off of their airplay for the year.

According to Mediabase, here are the #1 songs for each format (NOTE: These are based on total spins on all radio stations. Each station follows strict format rules. For example: WMMR is listed as Active Rock, therefore would contribute to the Active Rock spins list. WIOQ is listed as Top 40 Mainstream, therefore would contribute to that chart. If a song like Paralyzer by Finger Eleven was a crossover hit, its Top 40 spins are NOT included in Active Rock spins and vice versa):

Mainstream Rock: Ozzy Osbourne - I Don't Wanna Stop
AAA: Gomez - See The World
Active Rock: Papa Roach - Forever
Alternative: Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Top 40 (Mainstream): Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry
Top 40 (Rhythmic): T-Pain - Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin') (featuring Yung Joc)
Urban: T-Pain - Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin') (featuring Yung Joc)

Incubus? Yeah, I like them - but that album ("Light Grenades") wasn't my favorite of theirs. IMHO, the Foo Fighters "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" and Bad Religion's "New Maps Of Hell" were probably the two best rock albums of '07. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it ...) most mainstream radio avoids anything Bad Religion does like the plague - I guess once you're in your mid-40's, you shouldn't be playing punk rock anymore?

And while we're at it - is it just me, or is there some kind of gender bias in current-oriented rock radio against female fronted bands? I can't remember the last time I heard a female singer on WYSP or WMMR - at least not on a song recorded in the past 5 years ("Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence excepted, and that's a rarity to hear any more).

There's certainly no shortage of female bands:
Vanilla Ninja
Donnas
Girls Aloud
Sugarbabes
and a lot more I can't think of right now...
Can't forget the female fronted metal bands like:
Nightwish
Lacuna Coil
Tristania
Adastreia
and the list goes on and on
Could it be so-called program/music directors don't bother looking let alone listen?

I think Lacuna Coil is a great band. Cristina Scabbia did a duet with Dave Mustaine on MEgadeth's last CD as well (they covered the Megadeth song "A Tout le Monde" - worth a look on you tube). I am surprised MMR never plays Lacuna Coil, and I would think that they would be a perfect band for RFF's audience.
