Hello Rhubarbfan,
I am the first to say I am no expert in proper English or grammar myself, but at least try. I say this more in poking fun to make my next point, but you have butchered more names, words and grammar in your posts lol.....than the bean counter turned "master Butcherer himself " Farid Suleman from Citadel who also did some butchering of is own of every former ABC Radio station that he lusted to own and overpaid for. Well that idea didn't work out so well for him at the top then all the way down to once former well run stations with people like Evelyn Kay.
Good radio companies keep good people, bad companies (insert Clear Chanel, Cumulus, Citadel here) lose or fire their good people (because of their high paid jobs for being dedicated over the years) to their competition making it even that much harder to keep their place tight and competitive. They also lose good sales people with good relationships with their clients costing them thousands later on so they can save a few bucks now. There are not so many good radio companies out there to go to anymore in major cities so ultimately good radio people get out of the business unfortunately. That is what's sad and the reality about the state of corporate radio now.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Evlyin Kay is probably someone living in Asia somewhere. The Evelyn Kay from Kicks as it is spelled in any Google search, was obviously the result of another of Farid Suleman cost cut. But at least Farid Suleman the Citadel bean counter still has a job. I wonder how much Farid made last year? Or even why he would still even have the top CEO position after making Citadel stock absolutely worthless in less than three years and driving it to bankruptcy. How can people that do that be allowed to still run the same company without any outrage from shareholders?
Making multiple people forced to be working on multiple stations will always create mistakes like saying the wrong stations on the air like posted above. Even if they are bright and as good as someone like Evelyn Kay, it happens and its happening more and more. It's sad how they think those types of costs cutting ideas can make for better broadcasting, go figure.
To answer "Why would they do that?" to the earlier poster. There you have it.... Farid Suleman's bad deal! Disney/ABC Radio or Steve Jobs major Disney stockholder himself was pretty happy with their run to the bank back in 2007 or so and never looked back. Disney sold ABC Radio to Farid/Citadel to finance and pay Steve Jobs for Pixar. Apple got Steve Jobs back full time, and Disney is still one of the best companies to work for, and we all know how Citadel is now doing. At least many of us have a nice cool iphone and/or a neat Mac Book Pro with Steve Jobs back at Apple that ultimately came out of that bad ABC Radio deal. Apple, now Farid might learn something from those guys!
You might be able to follow Evelyn on Twitter still for updates, but then again some people might stick to making rhubarb pie instead of trying to figure that out ;D. (And that was meant as no disrepect to Rhubarb Jones, one of Atlanta radio's greatest broadcasters and a stand up guy! He does has a lot of fans out there. Rhubarbfan and I do have that in common).
