Evolution 107.1 Status Check

There is a discission in the Columbus chat room about the feasibility of dance music as a full time format. Boston is one of the few with electronic dance music full time. Itis on 107.1. I listen online and enjoy it. I am curious - how is the station doing? Is it creating a lot of buzz in the city or the local radio industry? It is anywhere near being one of the hot stations people want to hear? I hope so. Thank you.

I think Evolution definitely generated a lot of buzz among the younger college students who are more into the Edm format. The signal is perfect for the demo of the station so I think if clear channel can give it time (more than what they gave the Harbor), the station has potential to get a 1.8-2.3 in PPM. Boston is a very progressive town so I think this station fits in perfectly

You have two numbers reversed. It's on 101.7.

Also, it's the Columbus radio discussion board, and not a "chat room." ;D

Not hearing that buzz among college students, who are in an actual college. More along the lines of "oh, there's a dance station?"

I'd be surprised if they cracked a 1 with it. Coupled with the fact that college students don't really listen to the radio and the complete lack of promotion for the station, I can't see the numbers you're talking about happening.

Considering Clear Channel is one of the biggest outdoor advertising companies in the country, you have to wonder why they don't promote their radio stations more on their billboards. When one of their stations changes formats, the city should be plastered with advertising for it. Maybe they make more on billboards than they do on radio and don't want to give them up

Clear Channel Outdoor Media and Clear Channel Radio are two separate entities. No connection, other than name. It's my understanding that when a Clear Channel station buys advertising on Clear Channel Outdoor, there might be a discount, but it's still an actual purchase.

That's interesting. I assumed that since they are both covered by the same website, they were more connected than they are.

Do Clear Channel stations promote each other? For example, would Kiss-108 say "hey kids....if you want electronic dance music...then tune in our sister station on 101.7".

CC advertises the station on WJMN. JAMN is also running a promo about Boston Presets 1 2 3

1 JAMN
2 KISS
3 EVOLUTION

I don't listen to Kiss but I think that they typically run similar ones.

There's an Evolution billboard on Rt. 1A (the Lynnway) in Lynn, just saw it this past weekend.

Between billboards, promos, and the incredibly active street team that's out every single weekend all over town, it's hardly "no promotion."

BTW, the relationship between CCM+E and CC Outdoor is the same as it is between CBS Radio, CBS the network, and CBS Outdoor. Money has to change hands from company to company.
