Evolution 93.5 to launch 3/13/2013

Woohoo!
Jammin' & aircheckin' the 1st full hour online right now. :)
Great use of a translator!

Since, technically 93.5 is a translator, then what will it be translating? Must be an HD signal on one of the CC stations?

It's a start. Better than HD;D
Now, but not in the number of listeners it can ultimately cover.

Clear Channel has just used 93.5 to launch it's Evolution dance format full time in Miami (just in time for Ultra). Website is live at www.evolution935.com
Same station? As in, was WIOD on 93.5 a placeholder?

It had been mentioned in the 93.5 thread that they are or were translating WHYI-HD2.

I just put 93.5 on, and one of three things are currently happening:
They are translating Reach FM
They are off the air and I am hearing W228BV.
The weather has changed and I am hearing W228BV.

I live just south of Surfside.
Oh, I guess the website rules out the first possibility.
Great timing for UMF, starts in a couple days.

iHeart must recognize IP addresses.
Was listening to Evolution 101.7 but hearing all the 935 breaks.

Is the translator pretty much restricted to Miami-Dade county?

It's pretty much restricted to about a 10 to 12 mile radius around One Biscayne. It'll get farther in cars at times, but that's not where most listening takes place.

The antenna height is a plus, even with a lower ERP. It will be interesting how ducting and co channel interference will impact the signal.

Note: I did not look up the translator info, but I would assume CC went with height VS power.

why coudnt it have been evolution 939, c.c should have gotten rid of wmia and they would have coverd all three counties at 93.9 with dance.. anyway i preffer party 931 they cover both counties well with hd

250 watts is the maximum power for a translator at any height.
They are 499 feet up on the same building as the two "Z" stations, but not on the broadcast tower.
With HD, you can hear 935 on 100.7.2

Why would you blow up WMIA with good ratings?

At THIS point, this is a start.

Of course we would want a better signal with wider range of coverage versus a translator but at this point, support the station! ;D

We really need to "prove" that despite the signal, that people WANT this music. And if the response is good to excellent, that could support the argument that the format works and perhaps another corporation (or maybe CC themselves) could put on dance/EDM on such a strong signal that can cover the Eastern Keys all the way up to West Palm Beach. Set up a translator in Key West if that's the case :)

What if CC is stunting? In other words, what if placing Evolution on the repeater is just a stunt until after Ultra is over, when they will flip it to another format or become a repeater for WIOD once again?

we allready have several stations that play 80s/90's thru now genres and NONE on fm that play dance..

I doubt that CC would put in the effort to stunt on a mere translator that covers about a dozen miles of Dade County.

The translator is perfectly situated for Ultra.
The tourists here for the event will never leave its protected contour.
