Ewwww... I heard Zeppelin on WJRR...

I'm sure it's because it's a long holiday weekend but I'm hearing some odd junk on WJRR. Heard Aerosmith, Van Halen, and Led Zeppelin.

Interesting....

Sounds like that they are maybe going back to their 96-02 format??????

STUPID. I guess I just don't get rock radio programming in Orlando. Follow me here for a second....
I'm not counting WTKS since they've only spun music on the weekends.

1996: 3 rockers, WHTQ (Classic), WJRR (New 90's Alternative), WDIZ (somewhere in the middle)
WDIZ was being beat by WJRR yet when WDIZ was brought into the cluster it was the failing mix of music and talent that was retained. Now WJRR is like old WDIZ but with less competition it found some success. Alternative fans were left with Real Music Weekends on 104.1.

2002?: 3 rockers, WHTQ (Classic), WOCL (New Alternative), WJRR (still somewhere in the middle)
O-Rock fills the void of the original WJRR and JRR still sounds like the old WDIZ. 2 months following the launch of O-Rock, WJRR ditches the use of "WJRR" imaging and re-brands as Real Rock 101-one. Now 2 stations play new rock, WOCL has poor programmers, fails under the loss of Stern and leaves the format in 2007. WJRR has somehow "won" again as the default "NEW ROCK" station while WHTQ is still spinning classics.

2008: How about that... WJRR is successful again without competition... oops, let's fire the morning show and bring in the lame L&T. Hey, how about we tweak the format BACK to the classics and new stuff.

Seriously... How long is this merry-go-rock wheel gonna spin? Would someone at Cox please freshen up WHTQ and flip WMMO to a kick ass new rock station? Programmed correctly and using the 2 signal approach (just like in Tampa with 102.5 and 97X) they will bury WJRR. To the guys in Maitland.... GET A CLUE and quit tinkering with 101.1.

Bill,

This is Alan Smith. I was the original Program Director of O-Rock 105.9. Don't you dare call me or the other people that worked in that station "poor programmers." You never set foot in that station, nor had to make a decision while sitting in the chair. Unless you did, keep your mouth shut. We busted our butts, and for you to take a shot at us is low-class.

Sorry Alan... I didn't mean to imply that you or anyone on your staff didn't work hard on creating a successful radio station. I'm sure you personally poured everything into it. If anything, I'm hammering the history and some of the people who made decisions at WJRR here and not O-Rock. When O-Rock launched I was rooting for you... I always liked the station; it was cool and correct me if I'm wrong, pretty successful for the first year or so. However, the facts are the station was consistently low rated following the departure of Stern. Now whether the blame falls with marketing, music research, the format's weakness during that time, or the choice in air talent, something went wrong and was never corrected. I generalized it by using the term "poor programming" and maybe that was wrong. Whatever the case, the station eventually ceased to exist (on FM HD-1) and my point is WJRR continues to some how luck out into being the only choice for new rock in Orlando... then they start tinkering. That's it... plain and simple and I'm just calling it how I saw and heard it.

The Problem with the Rock stations or JRR in "MD" is they try to please everyone. Everyone though dont like certain music that they hear on the radio so they turn the channel after hearing a song/style they dont like. I'm a fan of todays Active Rock, but hate todays cheesey Alternative rock, I like the 80s hardrock/metal but tired of hearing(though I do like) the same 90s bands on the radio day in day out! Others will feel opposite on what I feel. I do like JRR over 98rock cause at least JRR plays some new hard rock bands, but also keeps up the 90s alternative style. But hey, I dont blame them for that cause they are a "Alternative" station. I do like that they have different shows on the weekends and have a "New Rock Hour" @ 11pm. My point is Rock radio cann't please me or the masses cause they mix too many different styles of music in their programming. A rock station needs to go 1 way. If they are a new rock station, then decide what kind of New Rock you want to put on. Active Rock Or Alternative. Dont mix it up!Of course there will always be a couple songs that dont fit the actual style you put on, for example you will still play Metallica on a Alternative station, and play Offspring on a Active Rock station, cause they are high ratings! But stay 1 direction.

Speaking of Metallica......is anybody gonna pick up their new album?????? I wish that somebody on here would let me know how it sounds. I used to be a HUGE Metallica fan in the eighties, but I have not been able to take them seriously ever since they sold out with the enormously overrated "Enter Sandman"...Don't get me wrong, I have listened to their stuff since then, but their last album was so incredibly awful that I think that I would rather listen to the sound effects of two elephants having sex than that album. Hell, I might actually listen to a full 5-hour Monsters show than Metallica's last album. What was up with the sound of Lars Ulrich's drums on that album...he sounded like that he was playing on trash can lids or something, and did anybody see that AWFUL movie that they made that showed James Hetfield crying!!!!!!!WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!!!!!!!

Somebody let me know how it sounds, and let's try to forget about that "St Anger" disaster and think of that hot August night back in '92 when Metallica and GNR played the Citrus Bowl......

I've had Death Magnetic for about a week and it's the best they've done since "And Justice For All". The single that JRR has been playing is my least favorite track on the disk. My best description would be that is sounds like "And Justice For All" without the crappy paper-sounding drums and the awful production.

What is the new track called????

What about that new AC/DC tune!!!!....you guys heard that????

The new track that JRR has played is "The Day That Never Comes". I'm very excited about the new AC/DC and I like the "Rock N' Roll Train" track that JRR's playing. "Black Ice" will be the first AC/DC release I've cared about since "Razor's Edge" when I saw them in concert in Pittsburgh. Awesome night.

I saw AC/DC in 91 on the razor's edge tour at the Orlando Arena...GREAT SHOW....I recall that they dropped money all over the place during "Moneytalks" and who can ever forget the cannons during "For Those About To Rock"....

I recall that Kings X opened up for them....

Another cool memory of concerts at the old arena days would be when Metallica played there in 1992. I recall they were playing "Battery" and the management turned on the house lights. I remember that EVERYBODY went to that show, from preps, metal heads, to jock guys...I also recall getting into an argument the next day at school with this little preppy jerk who went to Winter Park with me. Obviously this guy had NEVER been to a show before, because he left as soon as Metallica left the stage for the first time. I do not think that this guy knew what an encore was, and he told me that I was crazy and on drugs by saying that Metallica came back and played "Battery"...

What a dumb ass....

yes, labor day weekend was great on jrr. now why the hell can't it be like that everyday? we will never have the old jrr back. oh well, that is why there is ipods and stuff :).
