I can't find any record of them even filing for 50 kw. When did they do that? They would have had additional issues with 1270 in Tijuana and the several 1250s including Santa Barbara and 29 Palms.
This goes back to when 1260 had just switched to a jazz format. I remember around the start of the jazz format, Saul was interviewed by Gary Lycan and mentioned in the article that 1260AM would soon be 50,000 watts.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago. I found myself on the FCC website looking at information 1260. I happened to find a declined application (a CP, iirc) for a 50,000 watt 1260. According to a map in the document, 1280 was too close to 1260 (and possibly other signals from Mexico).
The strange thing is that I just checked the FCC site and the declined application is no longer listed. How odd. ??? I remember it because the name of the engineer had a unique Jewish name.
The closest I could find was this document. However, this isn't the one I described above.
