Ex-radio host Neil Rogers suffers heart attack and stroke

The gist of Rodriguez' complaint is that Neil is selfish, and kept all the money for himself. Implying that he should somehow transfer a significant amount of it to Jorge, who remains unemployed. Wasn't Jorge's employer Beasley, and not Neil? Jorge fairly drips with resentment, and the effect is ugly.

I've listened carefully to the internet show. While it's OK (technical quality is awful, for instance), it relies heavily on recycled Rogers bits and content. Who's ripping off whom?

I tried to listen to Jorge's show a few times and I wanted to like it but it just was not good. At least he tries.

When did he mention Neil was selfish? Around what hour ? I don't want to have to listen to the entire show just for one clip.

Speaking of insignificant, Jorge Rodriguez is still around? Oh wait, he's on the "Internet Radio".

Ridicule internet radio all you want. It it the future...NO...it is NOW. The internet is where people are receiving the latest news, music and entertainment. Of course you know that; otherwise, why would you be here?

Thanks for calling.

Agreed on this point. Internet radio is where everyone is going to end up.

I appreciate Norm's statement for what it is: the truth about his good friend and the clear message that we need to take better care of ourselves and our loved ones, so we might be able to dodge the proverbial bullet of going through what Neil is right now.

Here's hoping all those 'Neilies' who recorded hours upon hours of his show over the years know how to digitize audio and donate these recordings as airchecks to ReelRadio.com, Airchexx.com, and the like, so others can hear what one of America's most influential talk show hosts sound like. If not, I implore those people to find someone who does know and donate to that cause.

I think they'd be as big a hit as {insert famous personality here}.

Agreed on this point. Internet radio is where everyone is going to end up.

Everyone, that is, except for Howard Stern.

As far as Neil Rogers is concerned... Godspeed and God bless.

I too was a big Neil fan, although I never lived in the Miami area. Having him over the internet made for great entertainment while at work.

I have some old CD's of his show in the early 2000's. Anybody else have any old shows taped anywhere?

I have shows from November 2008 to June 2009 including his last show and all that.

Hey Jimmy - could you post the files up on filefront.com or some other site? I would love to listen and I'm sure others share the same interest.

I have about 4.5gb.

Does that site allow you to upload many files at one time? I've already contact Jorge Rodriguez about his old shows and he doesn't reply. I'm willing to bet someone has them saved somewhere at QAM.

If I knew Neil would end up like this I would have saved all of them every day.

I'm not sure. I've only uploaded single files, but it makes sense that you probably can. mediafire.com is another site like it. Hopefully you can get some of those up so we can all listen. I too am kicking myself that I didn't download more shows. I went to his sight right after he retired and all the shows were dead links.

Yeah, right after Neil retired I emailed Jorge at his new show with an email I thought was fairly nice, but his response was pretty rude from what I recall. I asked if he had any old shows or knew of anyone that did and he said NO ! and NO ! something like that.

He's a huge dick. I've emailed him a few times already and he just doesn't reply.

His show is not even a show. I don't know what you can call it. It's just a bunch of people in a room talking with no goal or direction.

That's one thing about Neil, he could go on and on about nothing and keep it entertaining. I'm gonna try mediafire. I'll post it here after I do it.

I might have some old DAT tapes from when Neil was on WIOD (some of his best years IMHO) and I may have a cassette or two of some vintage Neil at 79/WNWS. While at COX in Tampa Bay in the early 90's we ran him simulcasted on WSUN..and I spent a short time doing mornings at QAM when it was on Authur Godfrey Blvd. in the 80's If i can find those tapes I will load to one of my servers.

A compelling talk host whether you liked him or not.

Neil..God!

Thanks for posting Neil's airchecks! I was a diehard fan in '94 when he was simulcast in WSUN in Tampa. Unfortunately, they decided to let Ron & Ron program the entire station and he was replaced with the godawful "Hooters On The Radio". Whenever I had to drive down to south Florida, I always used to time it so I could hear Neil on WIOD.

I have some earlier Neil airchecks somewhere. I'll see if I can dig them out and post them.

From Norman Kent:

My friend Neil Rogers is still alive. But I cannot lie to you. He is dying. Sadly, at only the age of 68, Neil is losing his battle for life to a combination of irreversible heart attacks and strokes....

When I visit him now in the hospice, I usually play some of his old radio bits over my iPad, logging onto them at www. neilrogers.com. “The best,” he says, about them. Candidly, he cannot say much more, and I can’t say he has lots of time left.

Special thanks again to Jimmy for taking us back down memory lane. If others have some old shows, the rest of us would love to hear them. Please post them up.

On a side note - Norm Kent said he played old bits from neilrogers.com????? I'm assuming he is talking about little snipets and not a whole show.

Anyone else surprised how fast Neil went downhill after he "retired."

That show was the only thing keeping him alive. Poor bastard.

I've emailed Jorge several times already and still no response. He is quite an asshole. If you don't have old Neil shows just say it. I think he just hates any time someone talks to him about Neil. He should just embrace it.

Jorge has been doing Neil vigil themed shows all week and playing some old clips and bits on SoFloRadio.com. Today he had Steve Kane and Craig Worthing in studio. Great old stories.
