Exactly how long is 9,600 songs.....

Well, tonight will be a week since Power launched. We got a morning show, middays, overnights are probably gonna be Premium Choice. But anything in the rumor mill about new jocks, will they be local? Mixshows possible? How about an interactive "Top 9 @ 9" type show on weeknights? Or weekends...it would refreshing to have the REAL, AT 40 w/Ryan Seacrest, and/or one of the newer countdown shows. Hopefully, the dust will eventually settle and Power will FINALLY expand the music playlist, at least a little beyond the endless loop of songs they've been playing for the past week, right?

Thoughts?

I bet CC Voice tracks most of it. Except the fact they are voice tracked instead of local, CC has quite a few "voices" in other major markets some with a lot of talent. Of course listener interaction (phone or internet) will suffer, but a huge part of the audience will not care, and CC saves a few bucks.

Would Power be able to carry the CHR version of AT40? I know Star carries the hot AC version, but I don't know if market exclusivity would play into this.

To answer the thread question, it would probably take just under a month. Looking at their song logs on yes.com, Power is playing about 15 songs per hour, which translates to 360 per day.At that rate, it would take 26 days and 16 hours.

Many songs these days are coming in at under four minutes. Also, you need to compensate for the fact that Power speeds up their songs, so that'll take even more seconds off.

The BBC Radio 1 way is to play the best part of a song...usually the middle 2-3 minutes and then interject some wisdom about the artist, track and future releases and then mix into the next song...lather, rinse, repeat.

Have to wonder how long before that happens as the target audience's attention span gets shorter and shorter

There's a DJ on now during the afternoon shift. Not sure who he is.

I too heard a DJ on Power this afternoon. I think it's Mo' Bounce (voice-tracking) WHTZ/New York. Stick is part of the Elvis Duran Morning Show so, that's possible as well. And yes, Voice tracking is kind of blah for a major makrket CHR but, if that's the way it is then, my hope is that Power runs Club Kane on weekends. The format is similar to that of Open House Party. Of course, OHP would be AWESOME TOO! But, it's also been around since 1988! Other voice-tracked CC shows like Romeo On The Radio could work too....again, local is the best option but, this is CC!

That was actually a joke on my part. "Stick" was the first PM driver of 95.5 The Beat, with the rest of the station jockless for a long time. Is this other Stick the same Stick? One thing I do seem to remember around 2000 Beat did for a time have Mark Driscoll voiced imaging for a short time ... made me think of ... of ... Power 99.

Mo is on the air now, obviously voice tracked. I heard the afternoon guy for a few seconds right before 7 but didn't catch his name.

The "Stick" on Elvis Duran is not the same Stick who was on The Beat. The Stick who was on The Beat has been around the country on a bunch of stations. Two years ago, I heard him on XL106.7/Orlando, but he left shortly after that. I don't know where he is now.

What wonders a little Googling will accomplish. Stick who was at The Beat now does afternoon drive on Radio Now 100.9 in Indianapolis.

The afternoon drive DJ is/was JJ Kincaid of Z100, one of the best talents in the country. That being said, I sincerely hope it's not permanent. If Power plans to import mornings and middays, they need live afternoon and night jocks. Considering that neither JJ nor Mo are on the website, I'm assuming they're only on temporarily.

I just hope Power 99 is a "fun, lively" station. Full mixshows on Friday and Saturday nights into the early morning, and maybe even a morning, noon, drive time, and evening weekday mixshow. If they do any syndicated countdown, hopefully they do a good one and not some boring stale one. There are MANY countdown shows available. As far as their own personal countdowns, I don't care if stations do top 5, 8, or whatever countdowns - as long as they don't also do it on a FRIDAY NIGHT instead of a mixshow! I personally think weekday evening countdowns are old fashioned and silly now, but so many stations still do them these days.

If WiLD goes away, then hopefully Power will shift slightly to include rhythmic pop hits because it would suck to get a whole new top 40 station then still have Atlanta slack on a bunch of rhythmic hits because the top 40 station isn't rhythmic enough and the urbans also aren't rhythmic enough.

So Atlanta has its own Z100 replica. They're certainly going to need at least one live jock to do appearances.

The ad says "live and local". I wonder if they will VT the weekends and overnights? They might be mostly "live". If not why hire PT when they could VT?
