Excellent FM DX'ing last night in Central VA

Around 12 midnight to 1:15 AM was pulling in stuff off the Eastern Shore like it was right next door! Lots of stuff from Hampton Roads, and VA Beach, along with some Eastern Shore of MD as well. Every spot on the dial was full for that window of a little over an hour.

AM didn't seem to be any better than usual, but there were a few pirates squeaking through on 6925 AM. Too garbled to get any ID's.

Anyone else hear anything good last night/this morning?

Here in the Chicago area I've found nothing special on FM. The AM had been opening up in recent nights, but we've got storms in the area & the static levels are holding back the DX.

Re: Excellent FM DX'ing last night in Central VA

I didn't hear anything last night because I was at work, but tonight, I just heard WROZ 101.3, WARM 103.3, and WSOX 96.1 up in PA here in northern VA. Both 103.7's in NE MD and Richmond were heard, and WNNT 107.5 Tappahannock/Warsaw, VA about 100 miles to the southeast of me. That is a 6 kW station heard above the IBOC sideband noise from both local 107.3 and 107.7.
Some DC area FM stations have their IBOC off for a short period of time and then turn them back on. WHUR 96.3 in DC had its off and I heard Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell" clearly from Richmond's WKLR 96.5. I also heard 93.5 The Beach from DE.

My reference station (WHRO) was booming in, the last few nights, actually. From Richmond, most of the clear DC and Hampton Road stations were decoding in HD. The usual suspects were coming in from north and southeast (up to about 130 miles), just stronger. But no new or unusual catches.

The GE SR II's antenna is a bit loose, but on an outside job in St. Clair PA Thursday, it did manage to pick up what was probably Baltimore on 97.9 during a quick listen. They had an ad for some outlet with locations in Aberdeen, Annapolis and Frederick.

Next day, I think I had 102.7 from that area. The sessions were a quick bit of whizzes and fades over two afternoons. After all, I had to keep working to splurge for new batteries on the next job.

It's only 100 miles' worth of reception, but it was crumpling up far closer stations on those frequencies. I'm hoping someone had better luck and more time at the dial.

Last night, same time, I was pulling in 103.3 WESR from the Eastern Shore clear as a bell. "Serving the Eastern Shore with 50,000 watts."

92.9 The wave from Hampton Roads was nice and clear too. Plenty of other stations I didn't listen long enough to ID though.

It has been really quiet on the FM front here for a while, so this is a real treat. Still, AM isn't showing anything unusual.

All gone as of 11PM last night. I can't seem to get anything but locals, the AM dial sounds as usual, but the SW bands, especially the 40M are silent.
