EXCELLENT HBO DOCUMENTARY: "Friends With God"

I just finished watching Alexandra Pelosi's (yes, daughter of Nancy Pelosi) documentary on HBO "Friends WIth God." It is truly eye-opening and at the same time VERY scary. Really no difference between the Taliban in Afghanistan with shades of Al-Queda and the Christian Right in the United States.....and I'm saying this as a Republican!

THis show is a must watch.

As my initial response was about the documentary, I'm going to try to post it again, with a few changes:

I plan on trying to get someone to record this for me, because I'd like to judge it for myself, but given what I have seen on the HBO website about this documentary, I am expecting this documentary to be a perfect followup to "An Inconvenient Truth" and "Fahrenheit 911" on the bias scale. As a Christian conservative, I am extremely skeptical of any left-winger's depiction of Christianity, especially the Christian Right. If I had a dime for each time the Christian Right was compared to the worst of radical Islam, I'd be a wealthy man.

All fanatics are alike in that they believe in whatever it is they believe and they are convinced that everyone else is out to get them. So, yes, Muslim fanatics are exactly like Christian fanatics in that they believe that theirs is the only way and that non-believers will be devoured by the flames of damnation. Anyone who disagrees with them or questions them or ventures to offer another view point is a left-wing godless communist out to spoil the world for good Christian Americans.

Anya it's not only Fanatics, It's regualr people as well. We all have a certian amount of faith whether it be in God or the human spirit. As a Christian I do believe that if you do not accept Jesus Christ you are going to hell. It's a major p4ecept of my faith, that's where I stand. If you ask me or anyone with my beliefs to deny that fact, you're forcing me to give up one of the major tennants of a faith that has lasted more than 2000 years. Does that make me a fanatic? No.

I'm also not going to damn you to hell because I don't know your heart, but as a Christian it's my duty to at least offer you the ability to accept Christ even if you say no. Yes I believe that my way is the "only" way (just like any faith), but I will listen to other points of view and I won't shut you down. There's a difference, and I'm not going to sell my soul to compromise just so others around me are more comfortable.

We live in America and disenting opinion is what makes this country great. So before you call me a fanatic, just think If you came to me with your argument below! Who would look like the fanatic??

Fanatics do not think they are fanatics. A fanatic is defined as someone with extreme and sometimes irrational enthusiasms or beliefs. I would never stand in your way of serving your god, nor would I question your beliefs--but a fanatic would use his or her faith to write public law that reflects that faith and that public law effects me. However, that's not what I was writing about. I found it amusing, and simply amusing, that you believe that there are fundamentalist fanatics, but you do not believe that you are one. And my point, simply, is that fanatics often do not think of themselves as fanatics. That's pretty much all that I've said.

Not even close. While Robertson foolishly suggested that Hugo Chavez be taken out, he suggested that our government take him out. Many secular people believe the same thing; does that make them dangerous to society? No. What Robertson did not suggest is that Christians take Chavez out on their own. That's the huge difference between Robertson and fatwa-issuing Islamic imams: the imams call for Muslims around the world to carry out death sentences.
