I remember Allan when he was a "producer" at WREC in Memphis. After listening to the "Racket" show, I think Allan would be best in a market larger than Wilmington where his "standards" and talent can be better utilized with others his "equal."
Interesting "Racket" program, but WDEL is much more than Allan Loudell and WILM more than coffee-maker problems, sewage and some questionable hires Allan made. Having worked for both 'DEL and 'ILM many years ago, I respect Delmarva (and Steinman before it) and at WILM, Sally Hawkins, E.B. and the late Ewing B. who gave me a chance in what was then quite an eclectic operation.
A personality like Allan, talented that he is; respected and criticized as he is, must know from the places he's been -- that one person doesn't drive a radio station to succeed --- and, at 'DEL ... he isn't that person, alone.
In as competitive a market within the shadow of Philly which eclipses all Wilmington radio stations...he shouldn't be.
WDEL will continue to win by default: Local has a lot to do with it. The very mention of Clear Channel across the way at 1450 also has a lot to do with it. Figure in coverage, content, Phillies baseball, the Eagles and no Rush or Hannity now, and 'DEL should come out smokin'...but not because of Allan Loudell. I'd venture to say ... in spite of him.
