EXCELLENT WWL INTERVIEW WITH THE MAYOR RAY NAGIN

That is a TRUE man of the PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!

I just heard the interview with him. F*CKIN EXCELLENT !!

Best thing I've ever ever heard from a public official criticizing the government on their slow action and response time for this bad bad situation.

GREAT JOB FOR WWL !!!!!!!

The people who were not able to evacuate did what they were told and that was to go to the dome to SURVIVE and now they are DYING. For the radio station to air that interview completely and uncensored is EXCELLENT.. I have NO problems with what they did tonight!

I think its too new yet... I been trying to find it.

WWL is streaming radio now at

Best thing I've EVER heard from a Public Official! A man for the PEOPLE! I hope one day he runs for President because THATS the kinda of down to earth person we REALLY need in office!

Ray Nagin you have my support 100%

"The media" seems to have lost their patience, also:
Ted Koppel
Soledad O'Brien
Dr. Sanjay Gupta
...on camera, they seem to not be satisfied with the responses/answers they're getting from (FEMA) officials and the like.

...may God bless that man. I say we create a Draft Nagin campaign for the '08 Presidential campaign. Send this URL to every person in your Address Books. This is too important to miss...
______________

Outstanding interview.

Point-Counterpoint

As a public official, he also shoulders blame. He's deflecting blame, if anything.

Ray Nagin is, hands down, one of the worst mayors in the country, even before Katrina hit. Under his watch, crime has spiraled out of control, and the living conditions of his consistuents (read: poor inner city blacks) have deteriorated.

I know he's upset, but listening to this interview, he's losing all credibility. He sounds like a street thug ("man, I need this, man I need that).

He should be shouldering some of the blame.

I'm listening to it now and this interview is the one bright spot in all of this. Hard not to howl with laughter at the Mayor's plain-speaking, except that the circumstances are just too tragic for any laughter, or for any howling but for that of rage and sorrow. Great job, WWL, great job, Mayor. Tell it like it is and don't let up for a second. We're doing our best here in Houston to help.

Who is the interviewer? Awesome job!

With prayers and support,
Joanie

This is what FEMA is for, and they have failed miserably; I believe the mayor has done all that is within his power to do. There may well have been problems in the past, but for something of this magnitude, it's a FEDERAL problem, and the response has been horribly ineffectual.

I agree with the mayor.

You can add Anderson Cooper to that list. Also a CNN cameraman who went into the convention center and did an onair interview after. He went on about the absolutely distuging conditons in there (he didn't get too graphic). He said that he didn't shoot half the stuff he saw because he knew it couldn't get aired(and stuff was still edited out because it was too graphic). And I'm sure there's a lot more on air personalities you can add to this list.

What deflecting? There was plenty of evacuation notice for people to get out. Those who could left, those who weren't STUBBORN and were unable to evacuate were directed to go to a dome to SURVIVE. The people survived the storm, only to slowly DIE. He is the little guy, who appealed to the BIG guy, and the BIG guy moved like a SNAIL. Completely irresponsible on the hands of the US Govt.

Don't know much about NO in recent history. I do know that crime rose. But this is his first term, not? It takes TIME to get everything under control. After taking office, he launched an anti-corruption campaign within city government, which included crackdowns on the city's Taxicab Bureau and Utilities Department. There's just so much you can do in three years.

Times have changed. Is it me, or are the poor getting POORER? If you haven't noticed, the cost of living has gone UP UP UP more than ever and even MYSELF has gotten aggrivated and short-tempered at times. People need MONEY, and if there are NO jobs, people do what they got to do, and thats the drug market point blank.

He sounds like a HUMAN BEING. Just because you don't approve of his approach and calling him a street thug is 100% inacurate. Listen to his first TV interview after the hurricane hit. He was still calm and relaxed, waiting on assistance. Saying things like "I have a heavy heart," keeping the type of "composure" that most public officials do when they are on camera. THIS interview is the sound of a person FOR the PEOPLE, NOT a person for the government.

Nagin could have simply said "Help is still coming" "It's Coming!" "Believe in your governmnet, help is on the way." If he did THAT, I'd be very pissed, and THEN I could say he's got blame. That is the kind of sugar-coating that I just can't stand, and the Bush administration is so good at doing that.

The current interview that you heard is after FOUR days of CITIZENS who have been DYING, not having food or water that was PROMISED to him and the city of NO by the BIG government.

Who would ever THINK that the government would get people their by FRIDAY to take action. Nagin got empty promises. He stopped playing the game. And I'd be frustrated too if MY people were dying, including CHILDREN.

>
> He should be shouldering some of the blame.

The only blame I could see him shouldering, would be that he didn't evacuate the whole city including hospitals BEFORE the storm hit. That would be the only way to have avoided this situation. Troops should have been PREPARED to arrive in NO on Tuesday! They should have been called to action Sunday.

Guru, I'm sorry but you seem to be the ONLY one who does NOT like this interview. I like it because its REAL, not a FRONT, and 100% COMMON SENSE for what he had been calling for for over 4 days.

Clinton-Nagin in 2008.

Agreed -- it's only is first term as mayor, and he's come face to face with what would probably be his biggest challenge of his life. And so far, he's been there for New Orleans, while Bush was still relaxing on his ranch, not doing anything about Katrina until it's too late.

You want bad mayors? Go to Detroit -- Kwame Kilpatrick is truly a bad one.

Better yet -- Nagin-Jesse Jackson in 2008.

That mayor is certainly no Rudy Guiliani, is he???

And you should get off your high horse and look at what has really happened in NO. It is a national disgrace and makes one ashamed to be an American. The mayor said exactly what should have been said. Pleading for help for one's people does not make one a street thug--especially after several days of trying it the diplomatic way yielded no results. Already, the Bush administration has, hands down, been caught in a number of lies. This is a sad, tragic time for our nation.

Nagin is my hero. He showed himself to be human, something our current national administration apparently is not....

> That mayor is certainly no Rudy Guiliani, is he???

Nagin doesn't have the same charisma as Guiliani (which tends to be a requirement for NYC mayor), but at least he has the same gumption and courage.
