Exclusive: Sinclair approaches Tribune Media about possible deal - sources

Preparing for the future. Program listings on ZAP2IT.COM along with Wikipedia show 2 Sinclair digi-nets have been added to the 2 Tribune stations in Hartford. "The Stadium" has been added to WCCT Channel 20.4 and a networked called "TBD" has been added to WTIC Channel 61.3

I would've checked the RABBIT EARS site, but apparently they got hacked. I went to the site last night on my laptop using Chrome as the browser and a big warning came up that my laptop was now infected with Spyware or Malware and that I need to call a toll free number as soon as possible to get it removed.

Should be resolved.

Don't...you...believe it! My nephew and I have had that happen and it's nothing but clickbait designed to have you shill out hefty money to resolve the problem (assume there is one). Nothing your antivirus of Malwarebytes can't handle.

More Specifically Fox is planning to get 10 divested Sinclair stations.

According to the Financial Times, the company is “finalising the purchase of about 10 US television stations from Sinclair Broadcast Group.”

Sinclair, FT reports, is selling the stations as part of a divestment to win FCC approval of its $3.9 billion acquisition of Tribune Media.

The markets include Seattle, where Tribune owns Fox affiliate KCPQ and Sinclair owns ABC affiliate KOMO and Denver where Tribune currently owns the KDVR-KWGN duopoly. The Fox-Sinclair deal is contingent on the Sinclair-Tribune deal closing.

Other markets that will see overlap, and may be included in the deal, include St. Louis (Tribune owns Fox affiliate KTVI, while Sinclair owns ABC affiliate KDNL); Salt Lake City (Tribune owns Fox affiliate KSTU, Sinclair owns CBS affiliate KUTV); Oklahoma City (Tribune owns Fox affiliate KOKH, and Sinclair owns NBC affiliate KFOR); also stations in Greensboro, Grand Rapids, Harrisburg, Richmond, and Des Moines may be in play.

Yes, as predicted, Sinclair aparently won't be able to own KOMO-TV while gaining Tribune's KCPQ. Fox will pick up KOMO, but it is uncertain how this will effect other Sinclair stations in the NW, in Portland, Boise, and Tri-Cities. And it is also unclear how Sinclair's radio properties (KPLZ, KOMO-AM, and KVI-AM) will be effected. If they keep the radio properties then they would be operated out of a building where Fox owns the TV property. Probably not for long.

Sinclair is keeping KOMO Fox will be getting KCPQ as they wanted to be in Seattle for a long time now.

Looks like Fox17 may become a Fox O&O which will be interesting how they run WXMI didn't think that was going to happen once they didn't buy Tribune. Although going to be hard for Fox to get Syndie that they have in major markets like The Real, Wendy Willams show which has always been on WOTV since day 1 plus I don't when the contracts are up. I don't think that Fox O&O's have had Maury Povich or Steve Wilkos which they would be getting if they buy Fox from Sinclair & Tribune merger. I think they can get Page Six TV as that has a bad timeslot at 10:30AM on WZZM maybe get TMZ & TMZ Live as that is on WXSP Fox put TMZ Live in the afternoons which would be better than it is now on at 3AM TMZ comes on at 10:30AM.

If Fox is interested in AFC markets, could they be interested in another NFL package, like Thursday or Monday Night? could finally they finally end The Simpsons and Family Guy since Disney is getting those and get the Sunday Night package from NBC?

The Hartford Courant newspaper is no longer using FOX 61 for their weather. Both had been owned by Tribune even if the publishing division was spun off a few years ago.
The TV division is housed in the Hartford Courant building.

NBC keeps Sunday night package if it's goes some where else ESPN gets a second Game or even TNT or even NFL Network with own crew calling Game like Rich Eisen as main Announcer with like Kurt Warner doing the Play by Play and so on.

In KC Sinclair comes back just needs to come to Southwest MO area and Fox4kc swaps Antenna TV,This TV to KCTV5 and Comet TV joins Fox4kc on 4.2 and Charge goes on 4.3 and Stadium on 4.5.

Here is an update on the Sinclair/Tribune deal

The Department of Justice may be ready as early as Friday (Jan. 26), or early next week, to OK the Sinclair-Tribune deal, with station divestitures that resolve competition issues, according to someone familiar with the deal process.

Sinclair announced last year it was buying Tribune's 42 TV stations (or as many as the government would let it keep) for $3.9 billion. Before the deal, Sinclair already owned 193 TV stations.

One veteran communications attorney said they were expecting the DOJ sign-off "anytime" and that that had been what was holding up the FCC's review. The FCC had stopped the clock on its public interest vetting of the deal three weeks ago, citing Sinclair's signal that it would be adjusting the divestitures--as it worked with Justice on a deal.

Sinclair has indicated it was waiting for Justice's decision before it presented those new divestitures and amendments to the FCC.

The Justice decision is "well overdue" said the attorney, who has been closely following the deal's progress.

FCC chairman Ajit Pai has been getting pushback from deal critics for media ownership reforms that ease the way for the deal, including reinstating the UHF discount, which allows Sinclair, or any other broadcaster, to only count half a UHF station's audience toward the 39% limit on national audience reach, and loosening other local ownership regulations which could allow Sinclair to keep more of the stations.
