Excuse me?!

Read a story that the National History museum is now accepting memorabillia in order to exhibit the evolution of Hip Hop form its "origins in the Bronx in the 1970's". Excuse me?! (record scratch). Wow. These people have it all wrong. Hip Hop did not originate on the streets. Rather the origins of Hip Hop can be found on the airwaves of urban Rhythm & Blues radio shows from the late 40's onwards. The originators of rap/Hip Hop were Porky Chedwick, Jocko Henderson, Jerry Blavat, etc.

Let me put it this way. Hip Hop doesn't exist without rap. It was those legendary jocks that popularized "rapping". The fact that these jocks actually recorded raps of their own once Hip Hop was popularized speaks volumes. They were way too old to have any commercial success (not to mention the fact that records were stunts and not intended to make a big hit anyway) however listening to them proves that they could rap in the same league as the big boys.

Somewhow I don't think they see the big picture <P ID="signature">______________

Re: Excuse me?! Remember Jocko

I hope the Late Jocko Henderson gets a prominent place in the history or Rap Music. He snapped his fingers and took off on his rocket ship of rhyme before any of the rap artists were born.

Jocko was a superb jock. Where are the airchecks? Very few authentic Jocko airchecks until he appeared on CBS-FM.
