EXECUTIVE: IDOL NEEDS A REVAMP

I watch maybe 2 or 3 episodes a year but I always come to the same conclusion. Randy Jackson needs to go. The man can't make a decision. Anytime Seacrest turns to him and says "Randy, did America get it right tonight?" or "Randy, who had the worst night tonight?", Randy's answer is always the same: "I don't know, Ryan, it's hard to say...". Geez, man, grow a set why don't you. I've not been impressed with JLo at all (except for when she has her chest hanging out of her dress). I have been impressed with Steven Tyler though. And Seacrest is just warm and fuzzy and the contestants seem to like him.

You could revamp Idol...I'm just not sure it's needed. I don't think Randy Jackson is the problem. He does at least provide some continuity on the show. (as does Seacrest) The fact is there are now 3 major musical talent shows on TV. Idol, The Voice and The X-Factor.
That has diluted the need of some to watch these shows. (it remains to be seen if this Duets show turns into anything) Idol remains the top dog of this bunch.

Some observations about this year: the auditions RARELY focused on the bad or wacky singers like they have in the past. That was always some of the charm of the show.. to see the William Hungs of the world. Instead, we got a somewhat better musical show by highlighting a LOT of very good talent that ultimately wasn't quite good enough to go to Hollywood...or if they did, didn't go to the next round after that.

There's also no "blunt" judge on the show. The loss of Simon Cowell did hurt, but he can be replaced. I wouldn't mind seeing Jimmy Iovine in that role.

Then they always throw in the pitty spots.

Poor Bobby...........he's able to sing even though one leg is 5 inches longer than the other.

Poor Sally.......she is a great singer even if one eye looks east and the other looks west.

I think folks are finally seeing the show is just a karaoke match with overblown hype and drama.

It's been on TV for like 50 years now, I'd say a revamp is in order.

Of course I'm still waiting for Lucy to get in the show, Gilligan to get off that Island (no specials on another network don't count) and the girls on Petticoat Junction to admit that their mother is actually dead and stop deluding themselves, pretending that she's "traveling"

I'm still waiting until we can finally see what Ralph and Alice Kramden's bedroom look like. ::)

I know ABC has a show called Duets. Didn't Fox have a show called Duets and it was a Simon Cowell Series when it was on Fox in 2004-2005 before the World Series killed that show off.

I have found myself watching less this year, despite the judges ever-proclaiming, "this is the best pool of contestants ever". I think there is a reason they keep saying that.

However, now that it is down to the final few, I will watch.

Revamp? Didn't they do that two years ago?

Any major revamp now would carry some risks. As in, "the show is now irrelevant". (See: Saturday Night Live 1980), although they eventually dug out of that.
