Exitos 9 39 ...

It seems like they're integrating a syndicated news feature at the top of the hour now. Of course, they were talking about the swine flu! Is this going to be a permanent feature and would it be a smart idea? I think it's a rather interesting idea to air news throughout the day...

Nah, its the swine report from Mexico City. Typical. Dumb.

Military time?

Note to "Exitos" management: Telephone exchanges in Southern California (and, all over the United States) are clustered in groups of three digits, and not two digits.

EXAMPLE

818 52 00 939 (where "52" is incorrect and "520" is correct).

Re: Exitos 9 39 ... OMG!!!!!

I was listening to the Exitos live stream yesterday with my wife, and I couldn't believe what I heard! While I do like some of the music they play, there are elements that absolutely fly in the face of good programming practices.

Yesterday at 2:57 Pacific, THEY PLAYED Los del Rio with La Macarena! Sorry, but that friggin' song is BURNT! El colmo de los colmos!

Then listening to the top of the hour news, I just shook my head. My specialty is news, having worked in both radio and television news operations, and to hear two actualities that lasted :25 a piece and then an awful 1:00 report on the swine flu from Mexico, I slumped in disbelief! If you are going to do news on FM, dump the actualities, make it brief and to the point. Actualities should only last :08-:10 at the most, if they are used.

I was listening again yesterday and floored. I would have thought I was listening to a tropical station out of Miami. They closed one hour with Monchy and Alejandra and opened the new hour up with Aventura. Two bachatas that close together? Somebody needs a Selector lesson. Later in the hour I believe I heard Angel y Khriz. Exitos needs to better space accented crossover music. It gives the wrong idea to a casual listener who tunes in and hears something the station is not.

...and I heard "La Cita" a classic salsa song. This station reminds me of what "Viva 107.1" sounded like when it first debuted in 2000 or 2001. ALL OVER THE PLACE

I was listening and I was thinking that they need to start thinking like an American radio station targeting Hispanics, not a Mexican radio station from Mexico attracting the Mexican people.
WHAT MAKES ME SAY THIS???
The promotion on the station for this week is:
WE'RE GIVING AWAY 4 REFRIGERATORS A DAY!
No concert tickets. No money. No trips.
Refrigerators.
Good Job Exitos.
Not only that but this mother's day weekend they had an on-air promotion where callers could call their moms and the station would pay for the call. The problem: they had to call them on air. It was horrible. Listeners had full pledged 7 min each phone calls with their moms on the #2 Radio Market in America.
Good Job Exitos.
Barely any commercials and you're pulling this off? Where are you getting your money 93.9?
Good Job Exitos.

LOL The refrigerator giveaway shocked me! lol Sunday My girlfriend and I were driving to a family gathering when we heard the contest. I was like WTF!!! And I started laughing. My GF is from Mexico city and she said that is exactly what they do in Mexico. They give away things people actually need. lol

The mothers day phone calls were annoying. Everytime they put one, I flipped the station.

Honestly, I don't really like LA Radio. Thank god for my G1 phone. I stream CLUB FG from Paris most of the time I'm driving. Too bad it's in French and I don't understand a word! The only other downside is that as soon as I leave a 3G area, my signal drops. Can't wait til 3G is fully implemented!

Oh yeah, I also stream EXA and D99. But their streaming quality sucks compared to Club FG.

I also heard the mother's day calls and thought it was curious that they had three in a row from Guatemala. Nothing against Central Americans, my mother-in-law is from Honduras, but LA's ethnicity is primarily Mexican.
