the FCC claimed they would clean up the AM band-------------
with expanded band ------- 1610 to 1700 khz.
some AM stations moved there. Then they were supposed to leave
the air on their original frequency -----which I don't
think any of them did. as far as I know, the plan was a total farce.
And now there are useless stations in the expanded AM band that hardly
anyone listens to.
But Wait--- here comes the FCC to the rescue again--- as
Now the FCC wants to help smalll AM station owners by granting them
FM translators to simulcast on. Thus, jamming up the FM band.
 
I think the FCC plans to grant fm translators to more AM stations.
And allow AM stations to have more night power.

This may keep some failing AM stations in business but make
AM & FM congestion & interference worse.
