Expanded band question.

If a station is awarded an expanded band Freq. They can operate both stations for how long? And what becomes of the old Freq. that they had. Case in point the AM freq. 610 in Charlotte was awarded and is operating and freq. in the expanded band. I realise that the 610 channel is directional but with the heritage of the channel why would you want to dump it?

The expanded band channel that you are talking about (1660 WFNA) took the place of the now dark 1600 KHz WGIV.

Radio management doesn't give two flips about "heritage" these days.
