expanded primary coverage

RADIO: I would think WRKO's Todd Feinburg will offer election returns and commentary and perhaps they'll
pre-empt a good part of Mike Savage's show (esp. since 11 pm tends to be when some victory
speeches are made, etc.) WTKK normally has Severin but I wonder if there will be a pre-emption or cut-ins
with local stuff.

WBZ? A Bruins exhibition game is scheduled to be played but I'm not sure if they will carry it (and I checked
the B's sched and see no game is scheduled the night of the final election, Nov 7). WBUR? anyone else?

TV: Saw on Ch 4 tonight that they plan to do non-stop election coverage on sister station Ch 38 (Ch 4
opting for CBS programming I'd guess) and also I believe online...

I have heard a pretty heavy rotation of Promo's for extended primary coverage on WRKO. From what I can figure it sounds like some of their news people will be at the different candidate HQ's during the primary night hoping to get quick reaction as the numbers come in. I'm not sure if the coverage is live or not but maybe they'll be breaking in to Feinburg and/or Savage through out the night. We'll see I guess.

I believe WATD’s primary coverage will begin around 7pm on Tuesday night.

BTW, I’m taking bets on how long it’ll be before LucyLu comments on this??

Yeah, I'm waiting for LucyLu the Radio Guru comments too. ::)

WSAR in Fall River will provide Primary Election coverage tomorrow night. There are a few local races, including the race for Bristol County District Attorney. This D.A. Primary is the actual election this time. The winner has no opposition for November.

As it turned out, Todd Fineburg and Rod Fritz (who left after awhile) did 'RKO coverage and talk from 7 pm
to midnight. Shortly after it was announced that Deval was the choice, they started running a promo for
next Monday's debate, 6 to 7 pm (Howie's last hour will be deferred to 7 pm, for debate discussion of
Muffy-Deval-Mihos).

'BZ also did coverage all night, with Paul Sullivan and then Steve Leveille. The various speeches were picked
up and carried, mostly in their entirety, on WRKO, WBZ, and WBUR. Anyone know if WTKK did anything?
I noticed they were running tape delayed Laura Ingraham in the 10:00 hour, the 11:00 hour, etc. While WTKK
will also be covering the Monday night debate, it's possible they may have skipped out on primary night
coverage--unless they had some earlier...

I just left a message on Howie Carr's 617 779 3469 about Muffy Healy - from Spacist to Racist.

Boy, she came out swinging with the racism right away tonight citing Deval Patrick's "special interests."

The TV commentator said the only chance Muffy has of winning is to run a very ugly campaign. She didn't look that comfortable stumbling over her words. Deval knows how to speak - so this will be an interesting scenario -
maybe howie can change her name from Muffy to Mrs. Mumbles?

Mumbles squared?

Mumbles 2?

Mumbles...the sequel...

Deval used to do Coke :) (from Patrick's site: "Patrick then went on to become executive vice president and general counsel of the Coca-Cola Company. There he worked to reinvigorate the company’s global employment practices."

yeah it's too bad she'll have to be just like a Dem and run an ugly campaign...they're all the same I guess.
Gabrieli savaged the ad she ran against him. Duelling tycoons! The money Chris G. spent on this and
other unsuccessful campaigns could have been used instead to get a better signal for AAR in Boston, eh?

Raccoon - I am amazed at how you defend Kerry Healy's racism and dirty pool. Bush polarized this country more than any progressive ever could and you know it. He dropped the ball on 9/11 (at least, worst case scenario is that he was involved or let it happen for political reasons); he abused the outpouring of sympathy the U.S. had from everyone on this Globe, and you are blaming the victim of Healy's attack ads.

I find it very unsettling that she picked one target - the wrong one, as it turns out (she was afraid of the money Gabrielli has), and now she has set her sights on the winner. This is pure Modern Day Republican garbage.

The Grand Old Party of old would never have tolerated this kind of Karl Rove dirty politics. The current regime has defined outlaw activity as their weapon of choice. It would be SO refreshing if you could stick to facts and not lash out at "the other side."

You see - you can't. While we can provide links and proof all you can do is attack the other side. Last I checked, we are all in the same country. Your position is like pitting Christian against Muslim - the Pope and Bush don't get it that people are people and should be respected.

That's the progressive point of view and you label that "weak." You and your "conservative" friends (and that word has become a misnomer while Progressives remain true to the pure definition of the word) have only one
position: "You are with us, or you are against us."

That is not participation. That is not argument. That is dictatorship. Look where it is getting us.

But here's the clincher - many of my Republican friends - and you've played records their label's have released - have bailed from the Bush wagon. Oh, they say they are loyal - but unlike you - they are disgusted with Ashcroft & Gonzales and they weakly and meekly roll their eyes everytime Cheney shoots someone or Bush shoots his mouth off (like last Friday).

You are in the minority, my friend. Even your Republican "base" has distanced itself from Bush. People would rather watch Manning vs. Manning. It makes more sense and it is more honest than this Republican sideshow that is frightening the entire world - including it's "base".

I'm actually surprised that you her meaning of her words "special interests" as racial. I'm not a big fan of either of these clowns but I never got that out of that. I think she was referring to all his work with large corporations. If he was a white candidate you would have ever made that leap Joe. Perhaps your the one guilty of the race card here.
Of course this is going to be a dirty race. All of these clowns are virtually unknown with no real political record. The fact of the matter is no one wants to be governor of Massachusetts (and can you really blame them..) except for these two or three rich fat cats. We don't know anything about either really except which party they belong too. It will be a close race. A real fight to the finish. I think if you tried to play campaign manager for any of them you would be forced to come up with some of the same reasons to either vote for or against any one of them. They are virtual unknowns to the general public and really don't even seem to have any vast differences in their stands on issues unless you listen to the hypes of the media and the parties that need to keep this in the spotlight. Roll the dice.... None of them will probably also be able to get anything passed in their first term anyway. Patrik is the best speaker, Healy next with Mihos always sounding like a mess. So my bet without a scandal is on Patrick but who really cares. Which ever of them buys it we will be shopping again in a few years.

Ironically enough, my statement that Gabby could have given his millions to AAR instead was quite on the mark:
Radio Equalizer (I know, you libs hate him) points out that Gabrieli gave to Soros' Democracy Alliance
which helps to fund AAR...

http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2006/02/air-america-george-soros-mike-mccurry.html

>>Through an emergency bailout plan, a coalition of wealthy liberal political activists are poised to at least temporarily save Air America Radio. On the way: as much as $8 million in sorely-needed cash to fund ongoing operations.
(Donors include):
Chris Gabrieli Donor Boston-based venture capitalist

I'm keeping my post to radio-related stuff (Gabrieli funding of AAR) and can give my "why NOT to vote for Patrick" stuff on the Off The Air board.

If AAR's primary focus is to win elections (some feel this is why it fails) why don't they put on local talk hosts on a daily basis (not just the guy on Sundays)? Have someone on to convince us why we should vote
for Deval. Put a local guy on opposite Howie on 1200/1430. Joe? Send your audition tape now!

>>You are in the minority, my friend.

In Mass. I guess I am. And by the way I am an Unenrolled/Independent. (trying not to do offtopic stuff on this board, but just replying to you). Bush/Healey/Republicans are lesser of two evils, or is that evil of two lessers
(again, sigh, trying NOT to get off topic).
If a Dem ran whose positions I agreed with, I'd vote for him. Would you vote for a Republican whose positions you agreed with? Picture a Republican who wants to raise taxes, create more social programs, supports
gay marriage, is pro-choice on abortion, and the Dem. running against him/her is fiscally conservative,
anti-gay marriage, and pro-life. Who gets your vote?

Note to Johnny: The television commentators are the ones playing this clip about "special interests" and noting
that the campaign will get ugly.

JOHNNY WRITES:
"I'm actually surprised that you her meaning of her words "special interests" as racial. I'm not a big fan of either of these clowns but I never got that out of that. NOPE: just the messenger that the TV commentators are the ones isolating that cut and saying "read her lips", that she is being borderline racist - making a target of the minorities and sending a warning to her elitist Republican friends. She's not a "racist" at heart, y'all understand, if it was Gabrielli she would have another message. The fact that they say she has to stoop so low - and that she will change like a chameleon whichever way the political wind blows is the real frightening thing. Notice how Bob Nelson is a staunch Republican - if the ship sinks well, Bob is right there on it sinking with Mitt, Jane Swift, Kerry, Cellucci, the whole motley crew of 'em. That makes sense? When men who should be his heroes like Colin Powell and John McCain - two faced as they are - (the lesser of two evils indeed; their "superiors" are worse than them),
like rats off a sinking ship, Bob should realize - it is time to vote for Deval Patrick.

Patrick is Deval
Healy is the Devil, and she ain't in disguise

As for Raccoon's comments: or a Republican whose positions you agreed with? Picture a Republican who wants to raise taxes, create more social programs...

DON'T HAVE TO PICTURE HIM. It's the OPEN THE BORDERS, tax the middle class guy called George W. Bush.

Raccoon - your gas prices are taxes, y'know. A $300.00 check in the mail 5 years ago while you are getting it tucked to you at $9.00 per fillup more than you were paying under Bill Clinton, well that ain't inflation.
It's Bush's tax the poor to feed the rich. You just aren't paying attention - you're just paying the gas station attendant.

I'm sure Clear Channel already has the money. They were granted FCC approval for the proposed new 50 kW site for WKOX in Newton many years ago, but they were stymied by the City of Newton preventing them from building the new towers until earlier this year, when I understand they were finally granted approval. I don't know why construction of the new towers has not begun (as far as I've heard) yet, but I would suspect logistical or technical issues rather than financial.

That would depend on my personal positions on those issues. Not everyone agrees with you on them. That said, I've voted Democrat in all local and national elections during my adult life since the mid-70's, except for one. I voted Republican for MA Governor one time. I won't say which year here, but it wasn't very recent, and given who was running as Dem. that year, I still don't regret it.

>>It's the OPEN THE BORDERS, tax the middle class guy called George W. Bush.

I disagree with his "temp. guest workers" and admit both parties' POLITICIANS want to pander to the
illegals: Dems to get votes, Reps to get cheap labor--but that's the politicians, not the rank and file.
I'd love to see Tom Tacredo run...CLOSE the borders, or at least keep an eye on them. We need a third party.
Two parties a week are not enough.

"staunch Republican"--tell that to the registered Democrats who went for Reagan in the 80s (but prob also
voted for Dems in other offices), and to Dems who voted for Bush the last couple elections. Haven't heard
of too many Republicans For Kerry, but more than a few Democrats for Bush...in terms of politicians,
there's hardly a conservative wing of the Democratic party any more but in the rank and file more than a
few Dems have voted for Republican Presidents out of concerns like war on terror, taxes, social concerns
like gay marriage and abortion (of which I take a more moderate view, etc.)

How many Republicans voted for Kerry? (Actually, I did, just yesterday...oops, Kerry HEALEY!)

You voted for Bill "Pink Floyd" Weld over "Herr Doktor" Silber?
Wikipedia:' Weld won the election, in part, because the Democratic gubernatorial primary was won by John Silber, the right-wing president of Boston University, leaving Weld as the more "liberal" of the 2 major party candidates, and giving him a large share of the Democratic vote.
(Wikipedia mentions the tumult of the time: near junk bond status for bond ratings, unemployment nearly 10
per cent, etc. Preceding him in the office: Mike Dukakis.)

Silber the Republican vs Weld the Democrat

Now Bob you know Bill Weld was more of a Democrat than Silber could ever be.
They just flip flopped their hats. That's how a Republican won in this state - he
was far more democratic than the one armed bandit.

Hillary playing the middle is funny because she is solid Democrat through and through, which
is why your side can't stand her. BUT she will get undecided votes and she is as good as
Bob Dole on the other side. I don't mind Dole - in fact - I detest his viagra commercials more
than his politics. Bush is hated because the Republicans and The Democrat know he is an s.o.b.
Those who stick to him do so out of fear - like the Catholic Church. The Pope and Bush have a
lot in common - none of it good.

I could've lived with Bob Dole as President. You don't mind certain Democrats who really are in the middle.

This whole partisan thing has got to go. If Bush didn't have an R on his forehead you would absolutely despise him. That's your problem. I don't have to look at Ed Markey's D on his lapel to disagree with him and his positions. The only sincere e mail I got from Markey's office (walking distance from mine - they certainly know me over there) is when I wrote a Bush bashing letter. Go figure. I need my Congressman to not get pushed around by "special interests" which would've NEVER happened to the rookie Ed Markey. The old ed Markey is owned lock, stock & barrel by special interests. He was unopposed yesterday and got my vote.
So now he knows I voted for him - maybe he will help my "special interests", cleaning up the mess that is access tv in some cities and towns.

Regarding the proposed (and granted) construction for the WKOX power increase, this is from the Progressive Talk website:

"Plans are moving on... there's a lot to the procedure. They're not only upgrading WKOX, but 2 other stations also. So there are 6 transmitters that have to be ordered, built, delivered and installed... then there are towers to be built, and the equipment installed to tune each of the stations to the towers and prevent the stations from interfering with each other. Late summer 2007 is the target for the upgrade."

The other two stations referred to is a tower site move and power increase for WRCA (1330), and an increase for WUNR (1600), which all require different directional patterns.
