EXPECT TO HEAR NEW VOICES ON 93.1 THE WOLF

I was told today that none of the old crew will remain with WMQX. All were invited to apply for a job in the new format but only Pat Garett took them up on the offer and he was rejected (surprise). Max McGann and Boomer are out. I also understand some of the Oldies 93 sales staff are being shown the door. Randy Bliss remains as PD but I am told he is taking orders from some guy on the west coast. Entercom in Greensboro has lost some good people in the past few months and I expect soon will wish they had them back.

That's really bad news. Poor ole Boomer's been axed twice now due to format changes, and there is no harder working air talent than Boom.
Frankly, I expect to hear a lot more than just new voices on 93.1 in about 6 months or so (if I was inclined to listen).

If I was Boomer, I'd just collect my state sponsored vacation pay for a spell. My money says somebody will play oldies in the Triad before long. There are a couple of stations that soon will be forced to do something different just to keep the lights on...

They had a huge group out at the Dirks Bentley concert last night. Leanne Petty was there and some tall guy, i think he used to work at Whistle 100 was there. There was a blond who was wearing a Country Music Hall of Fame jacket ... jocks might be coming soon. The Wolf staff was really pressin the flesh and giving out a lot of merchandise.

It wouldn't be a shocker to hear that Boomer leaves radio. Max, who knows at his age a gig won't be easy to find. The one I really feel sorry for is Pat Garrett, I don't know the guy but Oldies got him up here back in July and pulled the rug out from under him after just three months. That is rotten I don't care who you are! I know the powers at Entercom will say it was just business but I know if I had done that to someone I would have trouble sleeping at night. I was happy to hear that Leeann is holding on to her job, she is a very nice lady. As far as the departing sales staff maybe not so bad for them, after how would you sell The Wolf?Oh, and that howling is really getting old and I don't think the jingles are all that great.

Max would be a great replacement for Glenn Scott on WSJS. Glenn, working from Horse Shoe, must be tiring of the routine!

Sad as it is for teh former Oldies staff it's necessary for the Wolf to start fresh. This is the first station in years that has the chance of taking down WTQR. If they hire energetic talent who want to win and know country radio they have a real shot. If not, the Triad's country audience will not pay attention. I hope the former WMQX people land somewhere but these changes are necessary.

Very well said N Guy. Yeah, I think all of us understand that the business of radio is to make money but it seems we hear way too many talent horror stories. I got that letter of explanation to the flip as a member of their preferred listeners and from what it said - their own words-this was something they have been thinking about over the past couple years.

So when an opportunity presented itself to help program the station, the noble thing for Entercom to have done was to not hire Pat in the first place as they knew what would be coming. Indeed, how can they sleep at night knowing full well the guy had to put his house up for sale in Savannah, uproot his family, find a new place etc. etc. Moving in itself is one of the most stressfull things one can go through and then to add unemployment to it was all preventable. Yeah, business is business but Entercom should be ashamed of themselves.

Ok n_guy ... you drew me out ... whaddya mean "at my age"? I'm having lunch with Pat G today. I'll let y'all know how he's feeling!! All the best from the beach.

Max--Best of Luck to you, Pat, Boomer and anyone else displaced by this craziness! FYI, it's a hard road here on the beach. I kinda had a feeling something was up several months ago when the ad appeared looking for a morning producer...followed by Mr. Bliss moving to the morning show. I've all but decided to call it quits and look for something totally out of the business. There is life elsewhere and there are employers, who do give a damn!

Dr News ... Thanks for the post ... Had lunch with Pat G today ... all in all he's in good spirits ... he told me that Boomer has not only left the building, he's left the biz! Something to do with the YMCA in Charlotte. If it works out, I'll be happy for him ... but sad for the business ... he's a great jock and an even better guy (we go back a lonnnnng way) ... All the best from the beach!

Max, Didn't mean to offend you but you will find that when the age has topped 50 interviews can be hard to get. Hope all is well with you and Pam. Now that I think about it you wouldn't look all that good in a cowboy hat anyway and if Bliss ever puts one on I think he will look very much like Gabby Hayes! I think Boomer will do ok and he will save big bucks on gas. Only met Pat a time or two but I still think he got a raw deal from Entercom.

n_guy ... No harm, no foul ... I'd look worse than Imus in a cowboy hat! Boomer's gonna be fine. Pat's a good guy and I'm sure he'll land on both feet (we're going to margaritaville before he heads back south). Randy's a good guy as well. Flip decision's (as we used to say in the Marine Corps) are made at pay grades way above ours. Pam is keeping my Honey do jar full ... fix the sweeper, finish the bathroom remodel, unload the dishwasher, do the laundry ... Ahh the life of a former rock and roll disc jockey! All the best from the beach!

Well then ... if 60 is the new 40 ... I'm 35! All the best from the beach!

I gotta say that not knowing in advance who your jocks are going to be is incredibly poor planning! How can you win like that? I heard today that WTQR is getting a new PD. They're preparing for battle. With planning like The Wolf, I have no doubt that CC will win this one.

Keep hangin' in there Max. By the way, any idea what happened to good ol'
Workman. Did I hear he is doing something with NASCAR?
