Experiment

I already KNOW the answer is NO
but this would be COOL to see if....

say, the next "fad" song ( ie: Psy) comes along this summer
and mtv. and/or KIIS-FM simply decide to "make this" the hit
of the year - and .... depsite decline other places, it is
UNREAL how this HIT "will NOT go away"
(for example: macrena2.0 2k13 mix) lol -> and it *IS*
in the TOP 3 from MEMORIAL day to LABOR DAY >> and
VJ's (if they still have those, lol) and KIIS talents play the
part, and just say "the right answers"

(ie: "When I am dj-ing at ---- Club, this is played/requested
a few times a night") / aka the oldest radio trick in the book
......"come on down to ________ as we are PACKED and NEED YOU HERE"

Okay, sooo after the song's release in april and it runs it course, in
May and perhaps early june, on CHR's in ...big markets, small towns,
canadian cities,
*IF*>>>KIIS (and/or MTV) still "sell" this as WOW as IF it is STILL # 1- - -

if rival stations, would "ripp" them and say glad we dont have that song in our library, or ...
IF stations, say in buffalo/the mid west, florida (etc) around AUGUST
would "pick it back up" as a "re-surging" HIT ???

Your question is kind of hard to understand, but I would think that KIIS or MTV would see that the song is trending down and drop it from there playlists, and even if they didn't, I don't think it would hang out in the top 3 all summer if only KIIS was playing it in power. Even with Psy's latest hit, it's already starting to decline across the country, but since its release, I have only seen it for 1 or 2 days not at number 1 on ITunes. So I really don't think it can survive all summer on the CHR airplay chart in the top 3. A song like Party Rock Anthem though would be in the top 3 most of the summer and continue to get airplay well into the fall and beyond. That song is over a year old now and still gets a considderable number of spins.

Thanks for the reply>that was the POINT of my first post..

WHAT IF - they DID keep in their countdown, as the trend the
song was "old" ( by today's standards)

If they kept it in there count down all summer, it would be top 3 on there playlist, but I don't see it hanging out there on the national chart. I don't think any single station has that much influence on the chart, even if it is in market number 2. It might stay for longer on the digital sails chart than if KIIS dropped it, but again I point to Psy, which is already declining on mainstream CHR but has yet to move from the number 1 spot on ITunes.
