I was checking out the construction permits that were granted for new noncomms in CT back in 2010, and I noticed that three of them are expiring in the next 2 months, and appear that they'll go unbuilt.
WHNM Pawcatuck, on 89.5 was the winner out of 5 applications. Licensed to the Franciscan Friars, it was to have its transmitter in Charlestown, RI off route 1. If built, it'd be the second station licensed to a community in Connecticut, but with its transmitter in Rhode Island (The other is WMOS Stonington.) The permit expires this October.
A new station on 90.7 licensed to Danielson and owned by Bryant University has an expiring permit on 8/12. That CP is confirmed to be dead. Bryant was the winner out of 4 applications, and it was to be built on Route 49 in Sterling. I was told that Bryant never intended to build out the CP, that it was more of a game of "keep away" to keep any possible competitor off the channel.
A new station on 90.9 licensed to Wethersfield with a transmitter site just south of Bolton Notch has a CP that expires in November. Legion of Christ College was the winner out of 6 apps.
The Pawcatuck and Danielson CPs are in the woods so I'm not shocked that they're dead. I'll be a little surprised if the 90.9 station in Wethersfield with good coverage over Manchester doesn't happen.
