Expiring Talent Contracts

So rumor has it that Bobby Box's contract expires early next year. As 98.5's format has moved on from Bobby's core audience, can anyone imagine that his contract will be renewed? And as Citadel approaches its rumored bankruptcy next year, and bankruptcy instantly voids ALL contracts, leases, and other agreements, can anyone imagine that Jim Villanucci's contract will be renewed when Citadel could simply move Glenn Beck over to afternoons on 770? And as Clear Channel centralizes their programming, who there might be on the brink?

Who else is out there making big talent dollars who might take the sword for their company's dire financial situation?

since he owns all the numbers at 98.5 ........he might even get a raise......he is worth twice what they pay him. He needs to be solo again, It's not working!!! BOX rebuttals please be backed by facts not speculation, core audience is in the eye of the beholder, who are they going to replace him with, Big Ben makes a better CLOCK??? Wolfman Jack Is dead.......KOB bring Larry back, his numbers were way way way up there...today they stand at 42% of his numbers.

I love Bobby Box and why shouldn't he be solo....let Ben Vt Middays and set Bobby Free To Be Bobby!

Wow I Just heard Dancing Dave Is Out at Big 98.5 and Ben was Doing Afternoons today does that Mean Its Box By Himself in Mornings...............Let Bobby B Bobby

Oh I see They Already Took Dancin Pic Off the Website...........

Now why don't you take Dick Clark off your site since 1600 has Been Running Rock Roll and Remember for 4 Months Now

On Second Thought Leave it on There and add this Line.... Now Hear Rock Roll and remember on Real Oldies 1600

In the words of Yogi Berra...."It's Like Deja vu-all over again" and who remains standing........the five footer with the ten foot voice.

Is he 5 foot When I hired him at 98.5 in 1997 it was more like 4'11 LOL just joking Bobby

KOB / citadel need to retain as much local content if possible in order to remain competitive. Local radio talent always makes the big bucks. Bring back Larry Ahrens if they can...

Funny how their Syndicated Programs Bring In Higher ratings Than their Local Stuff............KAGM Failed With Larry and They were All Local from 6a-9p and on FM....Why Did Local fail on KAGM? Some Say they had Names without Talent BUT if I remember they Had Chris Jackson who did well on 770 and They Had the Bean who did well on 93.3 for years....

At Kob Larry was a Conductor for the Abq Symphony, At AGM he was the Drum Major for Jal Marching Band (no offense to Jal, I was just using a small town reference, in my analogy, no offense to AGM, they just didn't have direction and rushed into it ??????? Anderson is good TV fodder, can't see her on the radio)

KKOB-AM is a machine. Larry grew with the station, but was not the main cog. That was the mistake AGM made in their talk radio project. Here, and in other markets, it is near impossible to recreate huge ratings by bringing back once huge name talent. New listeners, and new listeners moving in from other areas know nothing of the heritage of personalities.
Case in point, Bob Clark is doing very well in the vacated morning chair.
As far as syndication, there are basically two that do well everywhere..Rush and Hannity.
Add in Villanucci and fast developing Billy Cornelius, and that's a well-oiled air machine.
AM radio is basically relegated to talk radio. And those who want news and talk know where to go in Albuquerque. Larry, Chris and the Bean all were well-known at one time..but only in the framework of the station(s).
Move them to another unknown or new outlet...not so much.
I still maintain among the still standing, Mr. Box is the one to watch.
Contracts are good and evil.

What will happen with Citadel will be interesting.
As you who read this board know, Larry Wilson is quietly getting back into the radio business.
He's acquired Oregon stations and is looking, sloooooooowly, to re-build a radio empire.
He's stated he likes Western states. It's well-know he likes the high desert of New Mexico.
When the CC, Citadel debt hits the fan, look for Mr. Wilson and those like him to make a move.
Sort of, back- to- the -future.

Already hearing rumblings of contract situations being discussed in the GM's offices.
Interesting that some top rated station talents are flying without a contract.
A trend?
Soon to be the norm?

KOB with Larry 14.6, without as low as 7.6...looks like a main cog to me....At AGM he was a square peg in a round hole. They didn't have a vehicle for him.

Is that 14.6 after his 20 + years..and Bob's less than 5?
Is KKOB at the bottom of the heap?
Larry was replaceable.
The station is still a powerhouse..Marconi winner..without the Legend.
They could replace Bob tomorrow..the new person would have to build an audience..
but the station would be #1.

not disputings KOB value...just pointing out Larrys numbers while he was there.... sure they are still number one, by the hair on their chin ....compared to the 14.6 while he was there, and the next guy was at 5 or 6 something. they had the competition by a football field and that advantaged walked out the door with Larry, period, that's all I am saying. Why not just ackowledge It, he was popular, period. I don't listen to that station never have , save for Lobo basketball in the 60's, and Lobo football in the 70's. I am sure the current staff is good, don't even know who is on that station. I didn't even listen while Larry was on, I don't do talk radio, except maybe, teeny weeny, sometimes listen sports talk, I soon gave that up also because they just repeat what Mike and Mike said a couple of hrs earlier.

I apologize if I suggested that Larry was not popular. He was a mainstay on the station due to his tenure. That's my point. Have one person in that position for that number of years, will build the rating number.
Chris Jackson was popular while there. But, they're gone..and the station is still going as strong as ever. Give the current market stations that have become forces some credit to narrowing the number.

credit as to why they are not number one by a larger number.

Wow Radio Pro - Larry Wilson back in the saddle in Albuquerque? Woundn't that be a kick? And mabye Dex Allen could pick off KRST - and what about Jeff Trumper, still out there if Clear Channel comes unwound - Mike Langner could bring back the greatness of 96.3... could be a case of what goes around, comes around... fun to think about at least!
