The above PDF link contains the disclosure statement released by Freedom Works. Why aren't these "performers" required to do a disclaimer prior to each hour of their programs like every other infomercial on the air. Once they accept money from a political party to push a point of view these shows can no longer be described as purely entertainment.

These are people who would push this point of view regardless of the money. But the money came from FreedomWorks for the purpose of promoting that specific PAC. The law states the disclosure should come adjacent to the specific promotion. From what I can read, the money didn't ALL go into their pockets directly, but was designated in part to pay for advertising (and this word was used) in their shows. Advertising segments are clearly separated from regular programming. Music radio stations regularly air commercials from record labels, and that's not payola.

Anyone interested in the mechanics of FreedomWorks should catch the 1/4/2012 edition of Rachel Maddow. She puts forward the possibility that the SuperPAC existed primarily for the personal enrichment of a certain Dick Morris and any contributions towards the election of Mitt Romney were practically incidental.

It's a stretch to call these guys "Great Americans".

Being stalwarts of a talk radio format that appeals to crabby old white people isn't exactly the same thing as finding a cure for polio.

Sitting behind a gold plated mic and whining about people of whose hardship experiences you have no personal knowledge of isn't the same as actually LIVING them.

You see Seltzer, my definition of a "Great American" is someone who has NEVER been wealthy.

Someone who has found a breakthrough discovery (like Salk), but REFUSES to take a patent on it that could have made him a BILLIONAIRE - several times over. He GAVE it away as a gift to humanity. And the world remembers him WARMLY for it.

THAT'S a "Great American"

Or those who struggled to bring the people TOGETHER. To move beyond the idiocy of racism and homophobia and towards unity and progress to help a nation heal and reconcile, even if it costed them their lives.

THOSE are "Great Americans"

Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck wrap themselves in the flag and expect everyone to consider them the embodiment of all things American. But all they have participated in is the LOWEST form American capitalism. And nothing else.

Might make you a famous American, but it doesn't make you a "Great American" any more than Kim Kardashian could be compared to Benjamin Franklin.

Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are NOT "Great Americans".

Period.

So, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, or Al Gore wouldn't be "Great Americans" in your eyes, too?
