External Controller for Audition

I'm the production director at KCSU and we're looking to switch over from analog to digital recording of our airchecks. We currently use a casette recorder hooked thru our board. We're looking to be able to set up our system so that when we turn our mics on, Audition automatically begins recording and then stops recording when we turn our mics off.

Anyone know what types of equipment we'll need? We have a Pacific Research & Engineering (which was bought by Harris) AirWave12 board.

Thanks in advance!

Wow...

Well, I do know that VoxPro essentially works that way...it has an external control panel, that has a small RS-232 jack on the back...that's what plugs into the remote relay on the console.

That little jack, turns the relay open and close from the board, into a keyboard shortcut that starts the VoxPro recording, and stops it when you turn the relay closure off on the board.

SO...you need an engineer who can write a program that will be able to translate the on / off relay from the board, into whatever keyboard combo you press to start recording on Audition.

At least, that's what it seems like to me.

There may already be hardware solutions out there...check BSW or Harris...they might have that kinda stuff already built.

Check it out.

CBSI..or BSI...has software that will aircheck and save as a 128 mp3 as well as a .wav file. Not sure of the cost. We use it in our cluster. Audio can be saved on the server for 45 days. Engineer can set it to record any daypart. Records like the old skool cassette decks; when the mic is on it's recording, mic off it stops. Posts each recorded segment to the "Logger" site.

Another vote for Profiler. Very easy to use, and the segments save quickly for editing purposes.

Just make sure you have a whole lotta available memory -- highly recommended you use a drive for airchecks that has nothing else on it!
