I'd like to use an external mic on my Motorola Droid. I plugged a stereo mini plug into the jack & it killed the playback as expected, but the internal mic stayed active. Is there a trick to this?

External Mic on Cell Phone

OK...further research shows that a 3.5mm connector with Tip, 2 Rings and Sleeve is required to get the left audio, right audio and microphone inputs. Anyone know where I can find one of those without waiting 15-24 days to get one on Ebay from Hong Kong? If Radio Shack has one, I haven't found how to search for it!
You probably need a "camcorder cable" - it has a 3.5mm plug with three RCAs on it (red, white & yellow). On the iPhone Red is used for the microphone.
Search fleabay for USA sellers only and you'll easily find one that won't take three weeks to get to you. Or check your neighborhood camera shop.

"Camcorder Cable"...that's the keyword I was looking for. Of course, the one that's available locally is $41 and the Ebay one if $3 with free shipping...think I'll wait to play for a few days & save the cash. Thanks also to Tom for the mic characteristics.
The Droid's internal mic sounds very good, but the station in question is in a big enough market that they aren't cool with holding a Droid up to the client..I can understand that. Using the free HERTZ app for Droid, the quality of an "emailed" remote is quite good even at a 22050 sample rate. Actually, the 16000 sample rate was better than expected.
