External Printer on TFT EAS 911?

I have a client who's fed up with the poor reliability of the TFT's printer. Is anyone using an external printer or in some other way getting around using the 911's internal printer?

As I recall, the TFT printer uses an internal ribbon cable so it's probably a parallel device.
Nobody but TFT knows what kind of data is being fed to the printer.
The internal printer is a pain but I really don't know of any other option at this time.

The TFT has a serial output but it doesn't deliver the same information as the internal printer output.
It's designed to feed data to a Charactor Generator.

I use it with Sage, but the TDM Data Solutions software states that it is compatible with Sage, TFT and others, so I assume it has the capability of using the TFT's serial data in whatever format and converting it.

In my experience, the TFT serial output delivers only the data the scrolls on the TV screen.
It does not contain all of the information required by the FCC.
As I recall, it's 9600 8/N/1 serial format.
