"Extra....Extra....... Read All About It ......"HANK Is Number One"

I just heard the funniest promo on HANK, Archway’s country station in Greenville, NC. Here is how it went…..”Thanks for making HANK the number one fastest growing new station in Eastern North Carolina.”

Now the reason why that is so funny is because there are only two stations in ENC that sprang up in 2006, and that is WZUP which upgraded its power and turned on a regional Mexican format and HANK which renamed itself from EAGLE 94.

If you look at the ratings of both these stations HANK flipped 1 week before the 2006 winter book came out which gave EAGLE 94 a two point four rating while at the same time WZUP had a zero point zero rating.

In the spring book, HANK’S first book on its own, HANK garnered an impressive one point nine rating, a drop of two-tenths of a point from EAGLES two point four, and held that same rating in the summer book as well. On the other hand WZUP, went from a zero point zero in the winter book to a one point five in the spring book. Then WZUP climbed to a one point nine in the summer book and currently has a two point one in the first trend of the fall book.

Our friends at HANK have a two point two which is two-tenths of a point lower than where EAGLE left off and only one-tenth of a point higher than WZUP who started at zero point zero back in January 2006.

WZUP has gained more than two points in the last 10 months while HANK has gained a net two-tenths of a point in the last 10 months and is still two-tenths of a point behind EAGLES last book.

What does that mean in real business? The Greenville-New Bern-Jacksonville-Morehead city market is approximately 550,000 listeners 12 years old or older right….so it means that WZUP has added 11,550 listeners in 10 months while our buds at HANK have added a net 1,100 listeners in 10 months.

But I gots-ta-tell-ya, that most people in this office are saying they actually lost 2,750 listeners when they flipped and have only gained back 1,100 listeners and are still 1,650 listeners short of being back where they were with EAGLES last book, which means they might be the fastest eroding station in ENC…but don't tell nobody…………..

So the score looks like this:

WZUP 11,500 New Listeners
HANK 1,100 New Listeners

So, as I read it, and the numbers don’t lie…..WZUP, a regional Mexican format, has clearly spanked HANK and owns the bragging rights to the fastest growing “New” station in Eastern North Carolina….congratulations WZUP!

Now back to Archway…… if lying like a dog were a consideration in the ratings…..Archway stations in ENC would rank number 1-2-3 hands down.

What I want to know is….what are these carpetbaggers smokin’?

Re: "Extra....Extra....... Read All About It ......"HANK Is Number One"

My mistake...! Thanks to BudMan in Greenville for finding the typo heads-up.....here is the error.

"In the spring book, HANK’S first book on its own, HANK garnered an impressive one point nine rating, a drop of two-tenths of a point from EAGLES two point four, and held that same rating in the summer book as well. The correction is Archway dropped five-tenths of a point instead of two-tenths......what was I thinkin' ?
