Extreme Home Make-Over Cancelled

I used to like the show, when they would remodel an existing home. It was always fastinating to see what they could do. But then they started tearing everything down and building a new house. It just wasn't as interesting. It was also filled with too many product placements. It started to look like a Sears commercial. the sob stories got to be a little much at times. Haven't watched in several years.

I thought I saw an episode running on a Sunday aafternoon, which sounds like ABC is burning them off, like they did with Million Dollar Mind Game.

Those episodes of EMHE were reruns, much as they do with Wipeout--time filler as opposed to burn-offs (a la Mind Game)

I was "convinced" to "volunteer" my services by a builder we did alot of work for....the back story on this particular episode was a lie,I knew the family and they were NOT unfortunate by a long shot, the construction workers who pitched in were treated like morons ( by those who knew NOTHING about construction) and when all was said and done we did not even have work with the smiley gladhanded poser of a builder after completion of the project. Reality TV is anything BUT reality and posers should stick to politics. Glad to see this farce ending. Flip that bus!!!!

They built a house in my town also. From what I understand, the "stars" of the show spend very little time on the actual location and when they do its mainly when cameras are present and when they need to film some of the segments. There have also been several ugly lawsuits and family squabbles after homes have been built. There was one case where they built a home for some foster kids and as soon as the cameras left, the foster parents kicked the kids out and kept the house.

They built a home about a mile from me. The family really did need one. Their daughter had cancer, and she originally asked the show to renovate the children's hospital cancer ward to make it brighter, more kid-friendly, etc., which they did. But the producers also tore down the family's house and built a two-story McMansion in a neighborhood where that is completely out of character. The house is nice, but they also added a merry-go-round and a bunch of other ridiculous add-ons that went completely over-the-top. The builder wrote off the mortgage since the family in question clearly could never afford that kind of house. A few years later, they had to sell and move because the taxes, maintenance and power bills were just too much. It's sad. The show could have easily built a nice, relatively modest home for this family and still had the mortgage written off. That would, y'know... HELP the family instead of wowing America with what amounted to a "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" episode that eventually did nothing to help these people. The house is still there with a new family living there. But the merry-go-round and other frills are long gone. I mean, really, who can afford to operate and maintain a carnival ride at their home? I think what this show did by overdoing their "good works" is borderline tragic.

The plastic surgery version is just called Extreme Makeover. The Home Edition is the spinoff, and wildly more popular for a spinoff too. The original Extreme Makeover ended in 2007.

EMHE has been to this area a few times-- most recently in Joplin, Mo. EMHE went to Chapman, Kan., a couple of years ago following a tornado there. As I understand it, the family involved sold the new house as soon as they could, because of the jealousy and negativity from their neighbors.

The only time I ever watched the program was when the architect of an extreme makeover home in the Washington, DC area was somebody I know. I must say I was quite impressed. Plus, a person who was not so far away from that home also got a new place in the same program. The type of program just isn't my cup of tea.

Does everything have to be extreme for idiots these days? Caught what was once a wonderful show called "Sell this house" on A&E (big surprise with the low brow
direction of the show on what was once a great network) The show was on A&E on Saturday afternoons and did well, the moved it to 7 AM Saturday mornings which pretty much killed it. The new version now has the typical foul mouthed reality show contestants screaming at each other, unrealistic schedules that have to be done in a day....why? (Like the turn around and relaunch of a disgustiong restaurant has to be reopened in 1/2 hour on Ramseys kitchen nightmares)
fighting with contractors etc. The original show featured minor improvements that would turn around an ugly home and make it very saleable for very short money.
Now they feature major rip out construction that anyone with $$$$ can do. Typical TV programming morons.....lets fix something that ain't broke and make it look like every other piece of trash

The whole "extreme" and "totally" things are probably about played out. The architect I know was not even mentioned in the credits and didn't make a big production about how wonderful he is...like most of the unsung heroes and heroines who donate and volunteer time, talent and treasure. It often helps with their businesses in their worlds. There are many people who just do it without making a production out of it...just because. They do out of the goodness of their hearts, humbly but with a great sense of personal satisfaction that they were able to do something nice for another.

And America's Funniest Home Videos before that (Though AFVS is still around, thanks to Disney)

Cheers & 73 :)
