forgive me if this has already been discussed butI just found out about it.

Yeah.. its aimed at the gay audience and is out of Hartford (AND ITS CC IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT) but its actully not bad....

anyone heard this station yet? what do you think?

I did tune in and thought it was okay.

Actually, this raises a very INTERESTING question. Granted, the gay population LOVES dance music, especially the underground material. There are straight folks such as myself that love dance music intensely. Now, as dance music fans, we are all about the music...don't matter about gay, straight, black, white, man, woman, alien, etc. as long as the music is played we would tune in. But for the common folk, would the term "gay" be a turnoff and if other stations do similar formats on the HD-2,3 side, would this "hurt" dance music in terms of going further mainstream since you do have folks that don't want to associate their musical tastes with "gay" (and that to me is a rather ignorant thinking..but being a conservative society....you'll have this.)

It was something I was thinking about when hearing this and viewing the website.Personally, this station has good potential. Now if they can get dance music videos on Logo! :)

For example -- how many Active Rock stations are called "Straight Radio." It's just lame to call it GAY radio.

Agreed. I'm sure Gay people also listen to Modern Rock, Pop, AC, Oldies, Sports, News/Talk, etc.

uummm..... WOMEN have stations labeled and specifically for them. Men too (Spike)..... other groups have stations for them specifically as well.... RELIGIOUS groups, RACIAL groups etc.

Every SINGLE day the straight lifestyle is forced upon us everywhere we look... I think you can handle one HD-2 station be labeled as gay. Besides, im sure its just filler until WKSS-FM moves to the digital signal entirely

and FYI - Radio stations are str8 by default.... it goes without saying. This IS america you know.

What bothers me is the name FABULOUS and the overly gay voice over guy they have. We arent all limp-wristed, gucci carrying, hair-cutting, room decorating, pride parade leading pansies.

As for a dance station being labeled "gay"... um... rap/hiphop/urban stations were labeled BLACK for the longest time....

I think the real issue here is that you dont wanna be caught listening to a station dubbed "gay". Then again... if I was str8... I wouldnt want to either probably...

If this is the future of dance music you can kiss it goodbye. No need to pigeonhole this format to Gayradio type programming. Besides you have all those Gays in the closet who won't touch this station with a ten foot pole. Nobody wants to be blasting Faboulous Radio in their cars. How friggin embarassing is that!

They actually hurt dance music with ideas like this. If they want gay radio, it should be talk and/or variety of genres since gays listen to all types of music.

As a "gay person", come on people, really...i love all genres of music but dance is my top pick. However, I for one can do without the "diva circuit grooves", "anthems", circuit parties and all that $hit. I prefer the likes of Above & Beyond, Gabriel & Dresden, Sasha/Digweed, etc. I attend more str8 clubs then gay due to the fact the music is better and most people are there for the music, not out lookin for a good lay dancing shirtless showing off their steroid infected muscles. Dance is dance no matter who you choose to have sex with. Now I'm off to Club Space for Steve Lawler. PEACE.

I am hetero. I watch Logo. I LOVE dance music.

When I brought up the question, it was more about the "stereotypes" associated with dance music and the gay population (and you can thank the media for that) and how some "less liberal minded" folks might unfortunately be turned off with a station that plays great music but has the label of "gay". Fabulous 95.7 sounds pretty DEAD ON to what WKTU sounds like in New York City and even though 'KTU does have a gay audience (just like ANY radio station), 'KTU doesn't brand themselves as such.

My concern is this...why primarily associate dance music (which is the main genre of the station) as "gay"? Gays love dance music...sure, so do straight folks! Gays also love rock, r&b, hip-hop, jazz, classical, etc. I'd feel the same way if a "gay" station played Broadway show tunes all day...since it perpetuates another "stereotype" which isn't right.

I think WKSS eventually has to come down to some sort of decision with this. If they want to do a dance music format...CALL IT THAT, and if they have a large gay audience...fantastic! If they want to do a gay format, vary the songs (and it could have dance...but mix it with other genres of music as well), have some phone iin talk shows dealing with gay/lesbian/transgender concerns.

I want dance music to grow and for me, I could care less about the people that listen to it, nor couples that are same sex partners in clubs and dance music outings. I would just love for the media to be more open to the fact that dance music is for EVERYONE and not as a gay thing only.
