Face for Radio, Voice for TV

Buffalo News reports on TV' Nielsen Ratings, specifically, the closing of the gap between Channel 2 and Channel 4, with Channel 4 still on top in mornings, but not nearly as much as it used to. Buffalo seems to be caught up in the national trend of using TV news as a substitute for radio news. Each of the major broadcast companies that own 'properties' here have relationships, albeit in a mixed bag,

Entercomm: mostly w/Channel 2, although some channel 4
Citadel: mostly w/channel 4
Regent: Mostly w/Channel 7

It could be argued that the personalities/culture of the TV properties reflects accuratly w/these radio bretheran. Channel 2 seems edgy, on the rise, acquiring talent from competitors. Even picking up it's own Linda Pelligrino, Janet Snyder. Channel 4 is mostly the market leader for local news, levering this w/ top stations in Citadel. I really like when Shredd/Ragen have news/dude talk w/Don Postels. It's a nice chemistry that works well on the air. Channel 7, like it's red-headed stepchild Regents, is just a flat out mess, after releasing half the building.

Question: Which arrangement works best for each? Does Channel 2's stuff w/Entercomm really help Channel 2 come close to Channel 4?
Just some thoughts....

For what it's worth, my source of AM drive radio news is WNED-AM, WBEN and WBFO. These stations have self sustaining news departments, although WBFO credits Channel 7 as the source of news actualities such as sound bites.

If anything, morning drive television more closely resembles a well-programmed news-talk radio station. Of the three TV stations, Channel 4 resembles WBEN and Channel 2 in some ways resembles WGR Newsradio 55 when the two AM stations were at each other's throats through the 90's. (Remember the 90's?)

Channel 7? Lord knows they deserve points for trying to make it work, but the station has been severely pillaged by local management and the fools at Granite. The Channel 7 news staff has been dramatically thinned and it's a wonder they rate at all. I'll not criticize their morning drive air talent as I believe they're making the best of it.

Obviously, radio wins the audience war once Jane and John Doe leave the house and head off on their 15-25 minute drives to work. As to Shred & Ragan, what they do most resembles Jon Stewart and The Daily Show. This isn't an altogether bad concept, especially where 18-34 males are concerned. Unfortunately, the majority of American's are woefully ill-informed. Much as it pains me to write this on a radio message board, they'd be better served reading a few newspapers each week.
