Face for Radio

Has anyone heard the new Office Max radio commercial? They have “heart wrenching moments of truth” in the Ad. One of them is the moment you saw what your favorite radio DJ actually looked like. :D

It's not as true as it used to be. Today many stations want to hire jocks (the few that they have) who will look good at remotes, appearences, and on their web site.

I think the spot is pretty cute.

There are still a lot of people who work in radio who probably couldn't make it in TV. It seems like the average weight for a radio DJ is 225 lb. I don't find very many intensely overweight TV personalities, do you?

when did 225 become the norm? i was 210 behind a board...pregnant of course with go go gadget arms to reach the buttons

I heard it - and the same day I did, I got this email from a listener: "I saw your pic on the web site. I like your looks, & it certainly goes with your sexy voice. You remind me a little bit of "Richard Karn" who does "The family feud" on the game show network. I think of you when I see him."

Oy...its bad enough I get called John Goodman when I wear a flannel shirt. Now I look like Al Boreland!

To get that number, I took the weight of the staffers at my station and found the average: It was exactly 225 lb.

(Which clearly means that is the average for all stations everywhere)

I guess that is how radio is. You "get a a tire round your gut, from sittin on your butt and it's never gonna go away"

Ironically, didn't Richard Karn play that neighbor character on "Home Improvement" who was rarely seen on-screen?

And bravo to Radio Zombie for this gem:

So is the radio industry now going to concern itself with the "other" BMI
(Body Mass Index) when it comes to hiring?

Well played. ;)

Karn was Tim's sidekick Al on the show-within-the-show "Tool Time."

Hilarious. Guess this means I won't qualify for "Fast Money." Shucks... ::)

My next on air name will be "Thunder Thighs" :)

Would have read the thread sooner, but I was too busy trying to put the local Chinese buffet out of business....

And apparently, as of this week, they changed this commercial. The first "moment" of the ad used to be "when you discovered clowns were really creepy." Bozo ahs been replaced in the copy with "the first time you saw your dad... playing basketball."

(Sorry, the line about seeing what your favorite DJ looks like remains intact. ;D )
