Facebook will take down some, posts promoting anti-stay-at-home COVID-19 protests

https://fox40.com/news/coronavirus/...l-posts-promoting-anti-stay-at-home-protests/

Facebook will remove some posts on anti-stay-at-home protests being organized in California, New Jersey and Nebraska after consulting with officials in those states, a company spokesperson told CNN Monday.

The protests run afoul of the states’ social distancing guidelines, Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said.

Protests have erupted around the US in recent days as shutdown orders have been extended, just as record numbers of Americans lose their jobs.

Facebook has come under fire as groups organizing anti-stay-at-home protests have popped up all over the platform. Stone said Facebook would take down posts created through the Facebook Events feature that promote events in California, New Jersey and Nebraska. Other Facebook posts, including Facebook groups about the protests, might not be removed.

Right now I am seeing a protest in Downtown Sacramento over the Stay at home order and the Mask orders. Right now Facebook is trying to handle the situation on a state by state basis. I remember prior to protesters heading to Sacramento to violate the "Stay at Home" orders because "their rights" are being violated other state capitals around the nation had to deal with protests in their downtown areas because of the Mask and shelter in place orders. Yes these protests are directed at governors and mayors though.

But those who promote anti-vaccine views aren't waiting. They're out there now on social media, cultivating conspiracy theories and planting seeds of doubt that could limit a future vaccine's success.

Larry Cook, an anti-vaccine proponent with almost 50,000 subscribers on YouTube, posted on Facebook: "Make no mistake, the purpose of the coronavirus is to help usher in vaccine mandates. Be woke. Know the Plan. Prepare. Resist." The HighWire, a radio show hosted by film producer and anti-vaccine activist Del Bigtree, pushed the unsupported claim that COVID-19 created in a lab and suggested it may have had something to do with vaccine development. A slew of conspiracies are also cropping up on Facebook groups geared toward vaccine skepticism.

If you are wondering who is getting people to protest in Downtown Sacramento or other State Capitals around the nation to violate the "Mask Order" and the "Shelter in Place Order" its these people Larry Cook and Del Bigtree they have posted conspiracy theories on Youtube and facebook about COVID-19 that lead to people protesting at the state capital directed at mayors and governors over their response to COVID-19.

Cook and Bigtree should be held legally responsible for anyone who gets Coronavirus because of these idiots, especially if someone dies.

and in the Case of Louisiana

https://www.wbrz.com/news/arrest-warrant-issued-for-controversial-central-pastor-tony-spell

Pastor Tony Spell who has an arrest warrant by the State of Louisiana for inciting people to violate the shelter in place and mask orders in the Baton Rogue area. But this time the pastor is investigated over a moving violation over a bus. But the question now comes down to how much of the videos of Tony Spell pressuring his congregation to violate Louisiana Mask and shelter in place orders will be used against him is yet to be seen.

CENTRAL - Tony Spell, a local pastor who was cited in recent weeks after he flagrantly defied the state's stay-at-home order by holding services at Life Tabernacle Church, is facing new criminal charges.

According to the Central Police Department, Spell is wanted on a charge of aggravated assault related to an incident that happened Sunday. According to police records, Spell was driving a bus and backed it up on the shoulder of the road, almost hitting a protester. But, no one was hurt.

Now another argument comes into play the hardship issues as in the case in Sacramento. This is the same in other state capitals in the USA.

A large crowd converged on the State Capitol building on Monday to protest Governor Gavin Newsom’s statewide stay-at-home order.

“We can’t be afraid of this virus,” one demonstrator said. “This country doesn’t run, it fights for things and that’s what we’re out here doing is fighting for our freedom.”

Many protesters said they were frustrated that they are not allowed to work.

“I’m in dental. When was the last time you got your teeth cleaned? You know that’s disease, too? We’re not essential, apparently,” one protester said.

“We need to go back to work. It’s time, it’s definitely time,” salon owner Katie Chacon said.

Chacon said the help being offered is not enough.

“We’ve applied for all of the protection programs and we’re not getting any funding, and we don’t want to go into debt with an SPA loan over this,” she said.

The dental worker quoted has a point. I had three medical appointments scheduled in the next two weeks. All three doctors have called me to reschedule them for sometime in June. One asked if I had a smart phone; I had to answer no, as my phone is a dinosaur-ish 2010 cellphone with no video capacity at all, and I have no camera attached to my computer either. So basically, my spoken assurance over the phone that I'm feeling OK is taking the place of an office visit, at least for a couple of months. I can see serious health consequences -- having nothing to do with COVID-19 -- if this is the way medical practices around the country are being forced to operate.

Interesting analysis, pointing out that all of these protests have been incited by Fox News, who is using anti-big government rhetoric that registers with a group in the population:

https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-ne...ox-news-embraced-protests-against-coronavirus

If you see listen to what these protesters are saying, it all has its foundations in talk hosts on Fox News.

This isn't about combating a virus, it's about big government forcing us to stay indoors and accept government welfare.

The media creates the hysteria that fuels the protests that get covered by the media in a vicious circle.

Now there is a protest outside Governor Cuomo's office in Albany, NY. Yes its similar to the one that took place in Downtown Sacramento. This is basically blaming the hero (Governors, Mayors, Virologists, Geneticists, Doctors and Nursers) who are making sure that the death toll does not escalate in all these protests. Gee how many hospitals in Albany or Sacramento, or Baton Rogue will get spikes in deaths is yet to be seen or a death toll worse than New York City is getting is yet to be seen too given these protests though.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...itol-against-stay-at-home-order-idUSKBN22201H

Now Washington State has a protest in the Downtown Olympia area for the same reasons. Yes Facebook is on the hot seat on how to respond to people inciting violations of the mask and shelter in place orders of the states.

BTW if you notice the police has been very reticent to arrest any of the protesters. Their approach has just been to contain the protests. And even though there have been no arrests, Tucker Carlson today told his listeners that some governors are seeking to squelch dissent. There wasn't any evidence for it at any of the protests. But that's OK.

The conservative media is creating an "us vs. them" dichotomy, and that's good for ratings. Talking about people dying, talking about staying home, talking about the president's great job isn't good for ratings. Both the white house and Fox News know that. These protests and encouraging the protests, whether on TV or via social media, is good for ratings. These protests are about the media (broadcast and social) and ratings. And Fox News is winning.

Also if one is wondering which facebook group is sending people to the Governors offices in Sacramento, Albany, Olympia, Baton Rogue and others state capitals around the nation the group is called "Stop Mandatory Vaccination" if you are wondering where the "Governor insert name is a Dictator" or "Governor insert name is a communist" chants and signs comes from its from this group though.

Anti-vaccine activists, for example, continue to believe that the pandemic will lead the government to enforce a mandatory vaccination for the virus. (Clinical trials for a potential COVID-19 vaccine are underway, but a vaccine isn't expected to be available to the public until 2021 at the earliest.) But some of the more prominent among them are increasingly claiming that the virus was a pretext to execute mass surveillance and control all along. Larry Cook, one of the biggest single sources of anti-vaccine misinformation on Facebook and the creator of the massive group Stop Mandatory Vaccination, has persistently claimed in recent weeks that the virus is a cover for "mandatory testing, tracking and vaccination."

"Whatever struggles we had fighting vaccine mandates prior to COVID-19, those struggles are now amplified by a factor of 100," Cook wrote on Facebook on April 7. "Adult vaccine mandates are literally right around the corner. If they can shut down cities and societies around the world, they can force-vaccinate the population, by literal force, if they want." He's urged his followers not to "accept" COVID-19 testing, and darkly warned that testing soon will be required to "rejoin society."

Former Bush press secretary Ari Fleisher says Facebook is making a mistake taking down protest posts:

https://video.foxnews.com/v/6151070344001/

This gets presented as being anti-free speech, and feeds the narrative that Facebook is liberal.

On the other hand, these posts are promoting events that flaunt the law, not only of the state but the country as well.

Facebook posts that endanger lives should be taken down. These posts qualify and the posters should be banned permanently. I've had the thought that a lot of the conspiracy theorists who do this type of garbage are doing this just to get publicity for themselves and make a buck off of it. Doing it any time is bad enough but at a time like this they're showing that they're showing they have no regard for the lives they're endangering.

These posters don't see this as endangering lives. And they're getting support from the guy who calls himself the chief law enforcement officer.

Damn I didn't realize that the leaders of the protests are the "Dorr Brothers" a major political donor in some states though who are posting stuff to violate the shelter in place orders though. I didn't realize there are more leaders though than anti-vaxxers who are inciting these protests over shelter in place in the state capitals though.

This stuff is not going away anytime soon especially when new names on who the leaders of "COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories" keeps increasing.

“That’s one of their biggest slogans,” said Amy Pisani, the executive director of pro-vaccine group Vaccinate Your Family.

The predominantly right-wing activists calling for states to reopen businesses amid the pandemic have also criticized vaccines in their online communities. On “Michiganders Against Excessive Quarantine,” a Facebook group with more than 350,000 members that has become a hotbed for anti-social distancing protests in the state, thousands of members said they wouldn’t take any future vaccine. Some posters pushed conspiracy theories that the vaccine would be the “mark of the Beast” or a tracking device used by billionaire Bill Gates.

A user in “Reopen Missouri,” another Facebook group devoted to rapidly reopening businesses, made a popular post that included a vow to never take any future coronavirus vaccine.

The problem here is that if facebook really did ban anti-vaxxers and COVID-19 truthers then these people will say their free speech was violated and these people have political connections that have a factor in the 2020 elections. Also they have influence on facebook and twitter though how twitter and facebook management deals with this is yet to be seen on a state by state basis.

It turns out the Mayor of Las Vegas is saying some of the things the protesters have said on facebook and at the State capitals. Now I can see that it is impossible for facebook and twitter to block people with COVID-19 conspiracies given how influential some of them are.

The CNN anchor, however, had a lot of questions over just how wise such a move would be at this moment and how it would work.

At one point, Cooper showed a report from Chinese researchers that outlined how the virus spread in a restaurant.

“This isn’t China. This is Las Vegas, Nevada,” she interjected.

“Wow, that’s really ignorant,” he said.

“That’s ignorant to say?” she asked.

Cooper asked her about the risks of reopening public spaces like casinos where people will be in close quarters but also traveling to and from the city.

He asked, “Doesn’t that sound like a virus Petri dish? How is that safe?”

“It sounds like you are being alarmist,” she replied. “I am not. I have lived a long life.”.

Then Cooper asked her, “So you don’t believe there should be social distancing?”

“Of course,” she asked.

He then queried her on how that would be done in a casino.

I saw that interview. She also spoke with MSNBC in a far less confrontational interview. BTW that mayor is an independent, although she has been a Democrat in the past. However, Las Vegas is basically a one-industry town. She doesn't want to be seen as the reason the casinos and employees aren't making money. That's what a lot of these politicians are doing. The protesters are targeting the politicians, and some of the politicians are getting out of the way.
