'Facts Matter': KWQC's Dustin Nolan Quits Abruptly

Emmy-winning anchor Dustin Nolan announced his decision to "to step away from the news industry" at the end of his morning newscast Friday on KWQC-TV6, an NBC affiliate in Davenport. In his lachrymose farewell, Mr. Nolan expressed his belief that a local news station has "to be more than trends or sanitized news" and that "facts matter.”

I think we'll be seeing more of this as the FCC continues to allow multiple TV and radio expansions in various markets, especially for companies whose owners have a particular political viewpoint that may not be supported by the available factual information.

His exit seemed sprinkled with just a bit of sanctimony. I wonder if management was clear he was resigning before the broadcast?

Since his wife, who co-hosted with him, isn't leaving, does that mean facts don't matter to her? I doubt that's what he intended to convey, or that it is at all true, but it would be a reasonable interpretation.

There's been no recent change in ownership at the station, so this one is a puzzler.
