Failed test?

I was driving home the other day, and happened to be sampling across the am dial, when I heard the old familiar "This station is conducting a test..." announcement. But this time, right after this is only a test, it segued straight into the next spot... no pause, no tones, no nothing... Oops!

sounds like someone wasn't paying attention.

too bad some people don't put a "stop" command into the automation when it's time to run a "random" EAS test.

oops.

Best one I ever heard was the EBS Test Rock 103 used to run back in the late '70s. It was a straight read of the old :30 copy..."This is a test. This is only a test. If it had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed...etc."

The only thing unusual about it? It was read in a very heavy Russian accent, quite breathy with deep chuckles every now and again. It made your skin crawl in those scary days, but it never failed to crack me up completely. I cannot, for the life of me, remember who recorded it for us, but he was very good. That's another one of those pieces of audio I didn't think to archive, but wish I had.

Rob, do you remember this or was it before you arrived?

From memory :

This is a test. This station is conducting a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test...

This station is conducting a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed where to tune in your area for news and offical information. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System.

That I think was the original script. Other stuff was added later...but how did I do? Back in the day (when we walked to school in the snow uphill both ways...) we read it live.

'Saur... that was great, but you forgot the part where you say "Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep".

And Allan, that may have been a before my time thing at 103... The one I did there was the "weekend party system" test.

Rock 103 also had Joe Walsh do an EBS announcement for them in the 80's.

"How ya doin'?"

And Dees had the emergency Dortch Horton test, too.

But does anyone remember a Pat Buttram "Mr. Haney" sound-alike, who would instruct you to "mash that button right there" for the beep? THAT one I loved.
