Failing Vegas AMs

Curious, have heard that KNEWS is getting weaker; the ratings have never been above miserable, but are they billing? Even with the midday financial block with a brokered feel to it?

What's the scoop on the local channels with no ratings, like KSHP, KDOX, and KRLV? I can't see 1280 making it with a boring talk lineup when top players are already established. I'm excluding 1050 because I figure the preachers haven't run out of money yet.

As a mostly AM creature, always interested in what's doing poorly and what renovations might be forthcoming. LV seems to have its fair share of odd formats and low moneymakers, although I guess the band in general isn't making huge money.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again. One of the AM stations should go standards. The KJUL call letters are available. A station like 970 or 1280 that basically nobody listens to could become a hero and be very much appreciated by a loyal segment of listeners.

On 1280, you make a good point. KNUU does show up, although last, in 12+ Arbitron numbers, but if they're brokering daytime shows like Doug Fabian and making good money, who cares if anyone's listening? Money talks.

I guess it's good money? What % of KNUU is brokered?

The question is could they make more money with standards. What if they could get most of the former KJUL audience? (that age group is willing to listen to AM). They could sell spots and probably stil get away with running some brokered programming.

Look at KBAD/KENO, they have some paid programming, but they generate most of their revenue by running spots. They end up making more $$$ than the AMs that are mostly dependent on brokered. I realize the sports audience is more attractive to advertisers than most for AM, but Lotus proves that LV AMs don't need to resort to all-infomercials to make money.
 
i agree 100% that there should be an am adult standards station...many cities around the country have one.

The KJUL call-letters were just assigned to a CP on 790 licensed to Winchester, NV.
 
And there are how many new AM CP's for Las Vegas???

760 *new* 3rd Adjacent and no overlap w/790!
790 KJUL 3rd Adjacent and no overlap w/760!
1100 KWWN
(what I can find that are granted)
 
I always manage to listen to KENO whenever I'm in Vegas..in no other place could a format like theirs work..as a frequent visitor to sportsbooks, the information on there usually has me listening for at least an hour or two..
