FAIR WARNING UPPER VALLEY/RUTLAND RADIO

S

SCRADIOJOCK

Guest
Just wanted to give ya'll fair warning..I will once again be returning for a few days of fun in the snow and small market radio!! I would love it if all I could report after a few days are great jocks, tight, RIGHT music, clean production, and overall, great radio. After all, it is that, and ONLY that, which will keep us all employed through the days of IPODs and S-radio!!!

I will be focusing on Cat Country, Kiss, The Wolf, and Mix...but you just never know where my dial might find me.

As I sit and write this post, along with multitasking my flight, blackberry updates and calls from record reps, I have to wonder if this time, I will be able to post thoughts on a non personal level without them being lashed out again...Remember the Ed K and Tom H fun of a few months ago??

I must now find the websites around the area and see what I am in store for!!

Either way, I look forward to hearing what the stations in the great frozen tundra of VT/NH have to offer...

More to follow, and rest asured, my friends, I will be Keepin An Eye on The Radio!!

INITIAL WEB SITE ANALYSIS

As indicated above, before I arrived, I thought I would take an initial look at the various sites around the area.

WOW....ok, lets jump in and make some comments...once again, these comments are not personal, are not meant to attack anyone, just observations about the image they portray to the general public...OK?

Shall we begin-

CAT COUNTRY-are you serious? This site is horrible. I hope that PAMAL has amazing equipment for the staff, as they sure don't spend it on the site. There is nothing to it. The jock bios really don't make any sense. I always thought that one of the cool things about a station on the web is that it can create a "relationship" between listeners and jocks, by giving them a direct line of communication. These bios aren't even funny, much less provide someone with info about the jocks, save tht of JD. It looks like he is the backbone of the station...This site has changed very little since I looked at it almost a year ago, and had the same thoughts. You cannot tell me that it has to do with the market...with the WORLD WIDE WEB, you can have a slick site made anywhere. The logos are not even centered. I will look forward to JD's "overhaul" the site spoke of. YOU GO MAN!!

KISS 97.1 (aka Z-97)-Well, not much you can say about the standard old CC web design, except some webmaster is one rich dude!! Overall, the site looks good, as I would expect, with lots of ads and links to different stuff. Off the topic of the site for a minute, I am a little confused by the operation of the KISS(s)...are the Rutland and Burlington stations simulcast or the jocks just VT down. It looks like, from the MYSPACE references, that there is no one in Rutland. (Perhaps John and Judy). How does 97.1 do local stuff with everyone out of market? I assume that there is a large street team to pick up the local slack and give the station a face. I must say in looking at the profiles here, it seems there is the same old Judy...nothing interesting to say...and AJ and JAG...where did these tools come from?

WOLF-uh....ok...been looking at the same stalled page for a year...??? Is there any info coming?

WJJR-I couldn't get this site to load. See PAMAL comments above...

WKIXX-Although the other CC property was not on my listening list, I didn't want to sound all negitive about what I found on the web...again, the standard CC site, but well put together, and looks like there is a lot going on. Unlike KISS, its CC sister, KIXX seems to be very involved in the community, the proven way to win....LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL. Although I am not a large (THE USE OF LARGE WAS NOT A SWIPE AT THE MORNING SHOW) CC fan, they appear to have a good thing there. I will reserve final comments about the WOLF/KIXX war after my ears have a chance to be filled with the great sounds of country in the UV.

That's it for now...starting tomorrow, I will take notes, and share thoughts...much like other consultants. The difference is, I won't charge you...this time.

Until then, I'll be Keepin' an Eye on The Radio

Re: INITIAL WEB SITE ANALYSIS

Give XL92 a listen too if you can... I wonder how they're doing. I haven't been through the market for a while.
