Fake Calls on The Regular Guys?

Do the Regular Guys have a reputation (like the Bert Show) for fake phone calls from "listeners"? They spent a looooooong time yesterday with this one chick who wanted to talk about environmental issues. Problem is, the whole conversation sounded incredibly phony--just one setup after another from the caller so that TRG could mock Earth Day for 10-15 minutes. And it wasn't even funny, just more conservatives = good, liberals = morons that they always fall back on.

I heard the call and didn't think it was fake. Also the call was more like 5 minutes top. Larry strung her along for the entertainment value. Sounded like a typical bright-eyed 20 year-old who is going to save the world from the greedy republicans. They are known to have fake guests those are always over the top and the only time they usually solicit calls for a guest.

I thought that call was legit. I agree with RTibbs about the bright-eyed 20 year old girls. They tend to provide "one setup after another" in a situation like that. They're so cute at that age.

TRG do have fake call bits, but it's Tim Andrews and it’s obvious to most of us when he does it. I love hearing people buy in to the bit and call because they're outraged at something he said.

To add one more to the list...Cindy and Ray do it too. They are known to have employees "call in" for Cindy Says segments with a specific, scripted problem du jour. Nothing new, I guess...

Next thing you know, you'll be telling me that sitcoms and the news are scripted, too.

Or that Leno and Letterman don't write their own jokes, neither.

Phil Hendrie thinks he's a hack.

When Bert show use to do War of The Roses (all faked)
and most of their "situation" calls are all faked also.

I always thought it was strange that Rodney Ho in all his writing
about these shows never knew it and thought it was clever radio.

There are a few morning shows that don't resort to this.

The popcorn you're eating has been (whizzed) in...film at 11...

Yeah, that was my whole point. I've listened to all three versions of TRG, and they never seemed to take fake calls except for the obvious Tim Andrews bits. I don't know if the chick who called on Tuna Tuesday was fake, but her responses just sounded too manufactured and radio-friendly.

I think the reason she sounded that way is she was taking the talking points for the cause. If it was a fake bit she probably would have better responses. I liken her to the telemarketer who calls and if you get them off script they can not converse with you.

If she was fake I think she would have been bettered prepared but instead she seemed to be someone how thought they were intelligent because they have fed some facts by the cause but the minute you want to expand the conversation they can only stick to the facts they were told.

If they wanted to fake it they who have simply said they had a guest on to discuss Earth Day and let everyone hammer away at her and bulit a bit around her.
