Falcons On Star 94?

If you hear Brisket Shapiro tell it, he brokered the deal himself. 790 The Zone is the official home of the Falcons and Brisket, as brand manager, had the vision and capital to make it happen. The Falcons wanted to be on a station that could not be heard after sunset, so 4th quarter collapses by Matty "Luke Warm" Ryan would not be heard at all. Brisket was the only one who could offer that to Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Being the generous guy he is, Brisket threw Star 94 a shank bone and let them have the FM rights to the games. The Zone is currently known as "The Other Sports Station."

Don't feel bad that you didn't know.

It is not like STAR 94 has really promoted the fact. I bet the PD threw a fit when he learned that he had to carry them - talk about a train wreck to his programing.

I remember the old days when WSB and WGST used to compete to carry 'em. Now they cannot give the programming away. Sports programming is not the way it used to be even a decade ago.

???
On Fridays, they advertise "only 48 more hours until the Falcons are on Star 94"
On Saturdays, "only 24 hours until the Falcons are on Star 94"

You're kidding right? It's all over the website and on-air... and has been all season.

Part of it is sports teams demanding coverage on FM stations, which may have better things to do programming-wise, versus AM sportstalkers that could always use the home team for both programming and legitimacy. Unless you're a class A clear, particularly in this town, you will likely have to share the coverage with an FM.

I know it may turn out to be moot with the lockout, but who is the nominal FM home of the Hawks? Journey 97.9 or [email protected]?

I could have sworn hearing an NFL highlights show just a few weeks ago and heard the host credit "WZGC and the Atlanta Falcons Radio Network." So apparently, that guy was wrong, and not the AJC. Corrected I stand...

That said, it's certainly not unheard of for such a station to carry football play-by-play, let alone be their flagship. The World Champion Green Bay Packers' flagship is a CHR station, if I'm not mistaken.

The Green Bay Packers flagship is Newsradio 620 WTMJ in Milwaukee. Definitely not CHR. They also flagship the Brewers and Bucks.

IIRC The Pittsburgh Steelers are on WDVE which used to be listed as AOR (kind of reminded me of the old 96 rock) and now lists itself Rock.

OK... If you want to consider the Milwaukee affiliate the flagship since it's the larger market and WTMJ staff is being used, fine... But in Green Bay, WI - where the team is based - WIXX airs the games.
